I`ve always made the Hiker`s Backup with micarta handles, mostly black. (I can only remember doing two in brown). These are small knives, only 5 3/4" long. Recently someone (bearthedog) mentioned that they seemed a little "tactical" looking, so I decided to do something about that. Here is one in lacewood. The other thing a little different is there is no stump in the picture!

Great looking small knife. Do you make them without the scales? Looks like it would fit in an altoids.

I`ve done several without scales, 1/8" and 3/32" thick. I add an extra hole for cord wrapping. I know TFin04 had some pictures of one here somewhere. It`s too big for an Altoids tin, it`s 5 3/4" long

That looks great! And I'm proud to say I have one of the rare brown Micarta ones :) Still a great little knife.

Would that be your pickup's hood in place of ye olde stump? Love the lacewood. I think the little backup looks just right in wood. (not that it looked bad in micarta)

Yep, that`s the hood of the Ranger! I kind of liked the tree reflection in it.

I`ll make up a couple that will fit in the tin, one with no handle scales, and one with some thin ones, and see how they work out.
