I used to shoot song birds with an air rifle any time that I could as a kid in the country. That's just a fact that I won't deny, to be P.C. However I came across this little hidden shooting oasis in the trees that some kid set up. It is on a Bible schools property. When I went under the trees, in the background behind the sign, I found a collection of dead birds. Some were rotting in a pail. When I nailed one as a kid I would just toss it. It kind of gave me the willies that some kid was collecting his rotting birds in a pail. And why the box cutters when he\she already had two folders hanging in a tree. Dunno, it just didn't feel right. I left the whole mess as is and walked away. I stumbled across the site while metal detecting. B.T.W., the air gun was left cocked and loaded, I fired it into the ground.

Strange indeed. I would take the rifle and the knives with me. Any kid with no more respect for property than that, certainly wouldn't respect wildlife. That scene looks like something bad waiting to happen.

I use to shoot birds as a kid also. I would put them in a hole in a hollow tree . My dad would have spanked my ass good and take my pellet gun away , if he found out.

*Fast forwards 10yrs into the future* Police still do not know the identity of the Trinity lane serial killer...

Thats really messed up. Were the birds cut at all?
I've never shot anything for no reason, even as a kid. I would have wrote that kid a note if I were you.

If you have ever watched any of those documentaries about serial killers, they all started out killing and torturing animals when they were kids. That sounds like some messed up s*&! right there.

You said, " I left the whole mess as is and walked away".

Looked like from the pics you moved his gun and the knives around, and fired his gun into the ground.

Maybe the kid had to go home for lunch and was just gone for a few minutes, maybe he saw you and left, hard to tell.

Everybody talking about serial killer, the kids shooting birds, targets of opportunity.

I don't do it, anymore, but when I was a kid only birds that were safe were red birds and blue birds, not even sure why those really.

It's not like he was torching kittens and puppies. Does kind of bug me that he left his gun laying around though, That's unacceptable.

As for saving them, I used to get a dime a bird for keeping them out of our neighbors cherry trees, first job that wasn't for family.

Old man Stacy gave his grandsons the same deal, didn't cost to him to much. He gave me the same deal, he went to church in the morning came back after noon, I had 1/one full 3/three gallon bucket and another half full. The price went to a nickel a bird then.

If I'd have thought of it, I would have shot some at home and brought them with me:eek:

Least he ain't shooting at cars on the overpass.

Yeah, you should have at least made contact with their campus facility manager and let them do what they need to to . They would rather know if someone was misusing the campus and if someone wanted their stuff back they would have to answer up for what they did. Not saying they are on the road to being a life time creeper but you never know.

Only thing I can compare to is when I was with my grandfather at his cabin he had a huge issue with woodpeckers eating away at the the cabin so he would pay me $3 a dead woodpecker. I would camp outside the cabin with my 10/22 a few 25 rounders' and have a ball. he needed proof to pay me though so I would put them in a trash bin. The never rotted though because he would take them out and bury them over a mile away for the coyotes to get at. I used to pick up the corpses with a old post hole digger and it grossed the hell out of me but hey, I made almost $150 in a weekend once

So this is ok in your eyes? I understand pest control(starlings and crow here mainly) but this is on a church site. He left knives and a loaded gun free for anyone to take and use for whatever. The mutilated bird in the bucket? Yeah that sounds a bit like he isn't exactly saving them for proof. I don't even wann know what that spoon and fork is for! The church still needs to be notified so that this person can be informed that he's doing some things wrong(that is, if it is for pest control reason!).

The fact that there is a chair and multiple knives, 2 buckets tells me there is more than one person involved. Also, they left all that stuff there tells me they either are dumb or slightly sick in the head. ( don't think they are doing something weird).

Weird. It would be normal to find porno mags and cigarette butts not mutilated birds.

No, not 100% Ok, but half of you guys got him headed for a loony bin, or getting the cops on his ass. He probably lives close by the church.

We all know that when we were kids fences were just something to cross to get where we wanted to go. It's hard to get the concept of trespassing in the head of a kid until they hit 14 or so, at least in my experience.

I don't remember reading anything about a mutilated bird, just birds in a bucket.

From the pics it looks like the knives were closed and hanging in a tree until the concerned citizen metal detector happened on the scene and laid it all out for a photo to post on here.

Spoon and forks are for eating, robins aren't bad, in fact I hear grackles are quite tasty.
The spoon could have been worse, it could have been burnt on the bottom and wrapped with rubber bands so it wouldn't burn his fingers when he cooked up.

I'm not saying he's not nuts, just saying he probably isn't from the evidence/pics so far.

Looks like he's at least a decent shot.

G'day un

To be honest, back when I was a kid, I got my A$$e kicked for killing anything that didn't end up on the table as food for the family. And by saying I got my a$$e kicked, I'm talking about having my Dad's boot blanted fair up my A$$e.

There was a time when kids (INCLUDING MYSELF) killed animals to put meat on the table, and not leave them to rot in a bucket.

IMO, this question needs to be asked....How disassociated have kids these days become from the "real world", to kill for the sake of killing, without realising the implications?

Also, is there any relationship between the number of senseless killings that are reported in the media from the US and the idea that everyone has the right to kill?

Mick

Take everything. Shooting song birds aside leaving a loaded weapon out like that, even a pellet gun shows a total lack of concern for others. Take it and all the rest.
