A little fun with Integrals......

I'm having a little fun playing with 52100 round bar, and had recently been inspired to do some smaller integrals for easier carry.
These are a full through-tang construction and made in a fixed assembly all the way through with a threaded tang and finial construction.
For a through-tang, I simply don't know of a stronger construction method.
End-grain Spalted and Stabilized maple for handles.
I'll be taking these tomorrow to the 5th Annual Fox River Knife Rendezvous in Island Lake.

Kevin, on that small one, the cutting edge of the blade is about 3 3/8".
From the tip to where the handle material begins is 4".
Overall is 7 7/8".
 
great pair of knives there Karl, any tips for a great fit between the handle and the bolster?
It's a little hard to explain.
Try to imagine this:
Forge the blade and then draw out the tang in as round a shape as you can. Diameter is not all that important.
Pay special attention to forging the tang STRAIGHT in line with the blade in all directions.
Drill a hole in a block of wood the same diameter as the tang.
Lock the block of wood in your cut-off saw.
Stick the tang in the hole.
Bring your cut-off blade down to where you want your shoulder to be and sloooooooooowly spin the blade and cut your shoulder.
You will only cut down into the material maybe .150 - .200".

Very nice, Karl. Nice size. Looking forward to seeing some of these at the Ohio Classic in October. When I saw your original integral in 5160, I believe, I was going to send you a PM to ascertain if you could do one in 52100. That's now been answered. Can you do one with more of a drop point and a swedge/false edge?

This is how I do it, a bearing race welded to a drillvise.
Put the blade in the vise and file until you touch the bearingrace all around.

The blade is not an integral but you get the idea....
 
I really like all three of those knives. I'm partial to smaller fixed blades and the two smaller integrals are just wonderful. I think I need one of those! :D
