Recently, I have been asked some good questions concerning 2 of my Busse knives, and since I couldn't properly answer them, I am appealing to y'all for some information about these. Please teach me some BUSSE! :D

** Note: I'm only looking for information. These are not for sale, and won't be for some time, IF EVER.** Sorry, y'all! I'm lookin' for the facts, just the facts...

First up...
Sold to me as a Mean St. Ergo with a factory D/C finish, this knife is 3/16in. (.187in.) thick, the thinnest of 4 listed thicknesses according to BadMojo. It has standard black canvas handle slabs, and both talon and lanyard holes are present on the knife. The question is: How many Double Cut LMS's are there? IS it a LMS or maybe a very thin Mean St.? Standard or variant? Any info will be appreciated!

D/C (top) & Black Crinkle (bottom) LM St's.

The second knife in question is a Busse ARK (Air Rescue Knife). It is of the regular variety, black crinkle & snakeskin, 1 of 36, yadda-yadda, LOL. My question is how many are sterile?? This is one, there is definitely no logo on either side. I even pulled out a 10X loupe and searched and there is no trace. How many of these cool toothy ARK's are sterile out of 36? Inquiring mindz wanna know!

Photo Credit: Bad Mojo... IIRC, mine is the TOP one in the pic with the 2. I guess both are sterile, so that's 2 so far. Any others? :):D

ANY assistance would be appreciated. Bad news won't be bad, as they were sold to me W/O extra hype (I sniped the ARK from the 'Bay, LOL)... & good news will be awesome, so please tell me whatcha might know, cool??
TIA!!!

Top one is a Lean Mean Street. Do you know if it was factory DC finish? The reason I ask is that DC was not used when the LMS were produced. It may have been on the secondary market or it may have been a regular LMS that was sent back and had some refurb work done.

I have a satin LMS that was done at the shop and it is the only one I've seen like it.

The LMS are fairly rare anyway, so if the DC was done at the shop you have a really rare one.

I don't have any info for you in the ARK

:D:D

They made about 15 to 20 thousand means streets just like that. They are not worth very much.

The ARK without markings is obviously a fake!

I would be glad to take them both off of your hands at no cost to you:D

I doubt even the shop know's how many Mean Streets were DC.
I am fairly certain that all the Air Rescue Knives were Sterile.

Ok... After your post (Thank you!!!), I went back & took awhile to search it thoroughly, and I do believe I see a bit of black left inside the talon hole when I finally held it tip down and upon much closer inspection with a 10X loupe. I can see a thin even 'strip' of what is most likely the outer coating. It is visible without the loupe, but it took one to find it. Otherwise, it is a heck of a D/C finish, looks every bit like a professional job that is as good or better than some of my known factory D/C finished Busse's. Is there any obvious way to tell between a factory applied D/C finish and one done by someone else? Oh... What COLOR is the adhesive used under the slabs? (if any???)

...So YOU have the satin one! :D It's purty!!!:thumbup:
Thanks again for the info, Eric!

What a GIVER!!!! I'll send 'em right over! LMAO :D:D ;)

Here's mine with a custom shop logo:

Is it me or the reflection, but it seems that your serrations are on the 'front' (logo) side of the blade, mine are on the 'back'.:D I do like these ARK's! Yours is very nice indeed!

This could just indicate that the shop did it but they did it when it was sent in for a refurb job. I don't think there is anyway to tell when it was done unless a previous owner knows.

My guess, without knowing anything other than what you have posted, is that it was a black one, it was used and then it was sent back and resharpened, and cleaned up with a DC finish. If there is some way to determine that the shop did the DC, in my opinion that would add to the rarity of it. (and the resale value also)

:D:D

Eric, here's the original sale DESCRIPTION. It was advertised as mint, unused... (OLD THREAD)

"2. old school Mean Street(ergo generation) w/ double cut finish and black canvas slabs, mint and unused..."

It was refinished...I use to send stuff back all the time and have work done to it before Jerry became so famous and doesn't have time to do them any more :)

There is also a Satin/Tan and a Satin/Black LMS out there.

The closest thing to a DC LMS was the Prototypes.

PS...any SHBM's in double cut are redone too...

Bad Mojo has YOU listed as the owner of 1, nice PIC, & congrats!!
I did just get confirmation that my LMS was indeed "factory refinished" at Busse. :thumbup: Thanks for the information, y'all! This is all good info, and all part of a healthy education for this growing addict! LOL
:D

Thank YOU too, Boss!

Hey Eric,

Interesting ..... do you happen to have a picture of this Satin LMS? This inquisitive wolf would like to see one if possible ..... here or via email.

Also, do you happen to know it's history/story??

Thanks,
Ron

I don't want to derail Jaxx's thread but here is a pic (with a couple of PD variants) and the story is that I am the second owner and the original owner special ordered it from Busse with a Satin finish when they were being produced. I haven't seen another like it, however, that doesn't mean that they aren't out there.

That LMS looks like one of my old one's and it was definitely sent back for a DC finish.

I understand and appreciate the desire not to derail Jaxx's thread. My apologies Jaxx.

Thanks for sharing the picture, Eric!! Interesting grind line and sterile blade. Nice knife.

Those serrations are as you perceive them....on the same side as the logo. I love em too...and not very easy to get.

There were 12 SHBM's that were factory double cut, I've got one of them:

So were the 12 original Factory D/C or were they sent in and done after the fact? is the rope cut handle a feature of all 12?
