ok, so here is the deal, i like the cs trailmaster, and the scrapyard df,
what is the busse closest to these, in size and weight?

For length, a Battle Mistress of some flavor. For width, the DF varies, for the wide DFs, a FFBM is closest.

I just bought a CGFBM off a forum member, and they're all they're cracked up to be. I see what all the hoopla is about.

Yeah, any form of the Fusion Battle Mistress will do nicely. The NMFBM has the longest blade, and it's thinner than the FFBM, which helps.

I have the FFBM and I freakin' love that thing.

yeah, a ffbm is too much for this kid...lol

maybe a different flavor of bm....hmmmmm:D

You are wise.

Look around for a CG FBM. That would no doubt be just the thing. And there are plenty of gifted folks around who could satinize or beadblast it ... and even produce a new handle, if that's what you wanted.

Look for the "FABM" that Ban did some time ago. He thinned out an FBM and created a very desirable light chopper. I even bought an 'extra' CG FBM to receive this treatment, but haven't gotten on Ban's list ... yet.;)

You could also look for the BM-E. This is a previous Battle Mistress with the Ergo handle. They are EXCELLENT choppers with a fine handle shape ... I know good knife knuts who consider the BM-E a 'grail chopper.'

Happy hunting.

Listen to OP he is wise.

THe Basic 9 is a smoking choice as well:thumbup:

if you can find it:D

I would endorse the CGFBM as well. I was lucky enough to have a Brutha HOG let me try his out and I am obsessed with the idea of getting one now. Gotta save them pennies though.
She is a real chopper!

CGFBM is nice.

Basic 9 is good, but a bit lighter. Depends on what you want it for.

ZTBM - oh my. The bomb. I'd take on a thousand Persian warriors single-handedly with one of them.

Shhh!;)

We don't talk about that ... ;)

[Until AFTER we've cornered the after-market.:p]

EDIT: Dennis is right, of course. The ZTBM is wonderful, but I thought you wanted a somewhat affordable knife you might actually be able to find! (I'm not parting with mine!!)

I have a NMFBM on its way here now, and I have a FFBM that got shipped from the Busse custom shop today. I also have a CG FBM that I have been doing some serious chopping with. The only one I have yet to use is the NMFBM. The CG is lighter which helps with fatigue. The FFBM is a beast, but bites deep. I did find the FFBM bindes a little while battoning though. When the NMFBM gets here I am going to do a side by side test on chopping and so forth, and hopefully I get some pictures done as well. I would reccomend out of the three for now, the CG FBM or the NMFBM.

I know I have not used the NMFBM yet, but the .25 is plenty thick, and the extra length will give more leverage. The FFBM is just a little heavy and thick for normal use. It drags your pants off when wearing it on a belt as well. The extra length on the NMFBM will help in aiding for more surface area when batoning as well. YMMV and this is all just my opinion, and I am a noob so take it for what its worth.

Excellent choice T. You and OP have some good taste. Gotta love the B9's.

Hey Jerry, are we ever gonna see another run of Basics? Huh, huh?!?! :D

91xlt, I am in the western Philadelphia suburbs... Actually it seems that there are a good number of us HOGs around the Philly metro area now... If you can wait a month+ on picking up a chopper, I want to try and hold a get-together/chop-in for us tri-state local HOGs in the spring (once it warms up a bit!), and that would be a great opportunity for you to join us & try a few different versions to see what suits you best. :)

I have a CG FBM, FBM LE, NMFBM LE, & a ZTBM among other types of Busse's that I can bring and let you try out. It looks like I might be able to hold this meet 'n' greet/ around the Malvern (Chester County) area, at my Dad's horse farm.

Lemme know if this interests ya.

you bet it interests me JAXX!

please "ad me to the list" and keep me updated.

sounds awesome!

thanks!

91Xlt,

I spent many an hour with my original chopper (a sanmai trailmaster). I can tell you that the chopping power of the FBMLE, FFBM, cg FBM's etc is a lot greater. They have more mass and taller blade height. I found that extended use with the Krayton handle rubbed my hands raw, and the blade tended to want to roll more in the hand with hard chopping.

Keep an eye out on the exchange for a Dogfather, or Battlerat (from Swamp Rat). Either will be a good step up from the trailmaster in chopping. The blade profile is different, and the handle material is more durable, and comfortable. There is also the Basic 9, if you can fine one. Every once in a while they pop up on the exchange, but you have to be quick.

I did some fun cutting with both of them before I sold the CS. The CS would not plow through, even though I swung it much much harder (partly less mass, a bit less length, and the handle shape made it more prone to want to yaw in the cut). A half strength swing on the FBMLE plowed through easily. Even one swing where the I did not have the blade lined up right and the choil caught and tore the rest of the cut all the way through.

Jaxx put me on that chop-a-thon list too, I am in Central Jersey and lots of folks up this way from NJKCA/JerseyDevils that are members here too. Great idea near the mushroom farms!

You got it.
I'm on the JDF also... Same name as here. :)

+1 and a big :thumbup::thumbup: for the BM-E as a fine chopper. I found with my li'l lady hands it will still cut through a 2x4 like nothing else!

Roger That Jaxx, NJKCA meeting up in Clark,NJ THIS Sunday 15Feb, just ask Ken44....there should be some choppers present there like the CGFBMs!

That looks like a mighty healthy 2x4, maybe a 4x4 is more like it! Nice cutting action as seen in the cuts, kudos to the Lady wielding the BM-E!
