A little Nessmuk love

Thought this would be appropriate for this thread. Here's our new X-Carry Nessmuk sheath from Diomedes. These are the first of the new design.

Ambidextrous. Horizontal or vertical. 5 colors available.

The past couple of weeks I've been out hunting Elk in the mountains, but no luck. It's been an odd year for Elk. There's still a bit of time left in the season and I'm hoping to get out a few more times. We'll see. I'd like to post a field dressing report with the 'Muk, but nothing is guaranteed...except for sweat and nice views.

Wow, really nice view Jack! I don't know what the temps are like in your neck of the country, but here it's still warm enough that I have to argue with the yellow jackets over my food here when I am eating in the woods. I would sure hating having to process any large game in the woods right now. That said, I would love to see the field dressing post.

Awesome post and pictures. I love the Nessmuk knife design and I also have a Fiddleback Nessmuk that is 3/16" thick. I was very surprised how well it sliced vegetables the first time I used it. Someday I would love to see one made by Fiddleback Forge in either 3/32" or 1/16" in Cpm-154.

I like the patina on the blade flat, but not the grind. How do you get that look? Just differential cleaning, or something else?

That's not a patina on the flats, it's spalting which is a texture in the steel itself.

Yep, what Mistwalker said.

Temps are still a bit warm: frost over night but 50's by afternoon. We have been worried about getting an Elk cooled down quickly enough, but haven't had to face that problem just yet. :(

You're in better shape for big game hunting there than here. We're just now getting into the 50s over night and still hitting 75 in the afternoons.

Put this together this morning as I scored the BSA Plumb hatchet at a Flea Market this weekend and the Bladeforums Traditional Folder also showed up.

Need to reshoot that one in the afternoon light.

I love me a good Nessmuk. I really need to get one of Andy's smaller Nessmuks. Until then my Camp Nessie with have to do.
