So, I have yet to get a deer this season and I am running out of time. I decided to make a trip out today (despite the weather) to see if I could come across one wondering around the property. The drive over to my buddy's property where we usually hunt took a LOT longer than usual, but I made it there in one piece. I parked well on to the shoulder of the road and went up to the cabin to meet up with my buddy and ask if he was ready to slay bambi. We got right ready to head out and then when we looked outside, we changed our minds. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think it's very safe to hunt deer when you can't see 20 feet in front of your face. So we chatted for a bit, and had a glass (or three) of the Macallan 12 to warm up. A third of the way through the bottle, we heard a knock on the door. Who the hell is knocking on the door? We are in the middle of nowhere! So he answered the door while I hung back and consumed more delicious beverage. Then my buddy called for me, because apparently the person at the door is looking for me. So, some kid younger than me is standing there looking whiter than the snow.

"Hey bro, sorry dude I rear ended your car."

AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

In the trunk of my car was my shiny new excaliber exomax out of the case (ever tried to string a bow with cold hands :thumbdn:. Anyways, enough details, although the kid is at fault for the accident (FOR DRIVING A SHITBOX TOYATA MR2 WITHOUT WINTER TIRES IN A FOOT AND A HALF OF SNOW!!!), my insurance obviously isn't going to cover the $1000 to get a new bow and scope.

Looks like I might have to cancel my Ganzaaaa purchase :grumpy:

Don't cancel your order!!!!!!

Season's almost out, you won't get any use out of a new bow this year. Depending on what you score, you can trade it towards a new bow next year and do well.

NEVER CANCEL AN ORDER!!!!!!!!!!!

you'll regret it.

You might want to check your home insurance/renter's insurance policy to see if you might have coverage in there... if not, well mebbe it's time to run over the rest of it on your driveway & claim it on the home insurance policy??? ...LOL, not the soundest advice, the running over it at home part.

Sorry to hear about the accident and property damage to your crossbow...That suxx... The driver of the other car should have to report it to his auto insurance co. as part of his claim. It's damage that he caused. BTW I've heard lots of good things about Excalibur; have you owned any others, do you recommend them as worthy of owning?

I honestly don't want to take him to court, I would feel bad suing somebody over an accident. Although he could probably be considered negligent for not having snow tires and driving a RWD car in such shitty conditions I would feel really shitty for screwing the poor kid over for a mistake like that. Accidents happen.

Like Jaxx said, call your agent , I have contents coverage for my vehicles. Thank god
you were not getting anything out of your trunk when you got smucked !

Yeah, mistakes happen - and when they do, you own up to your mistakes and take responsibility. Kid or not, he wronged you and he should have offered to make it right. You aren't screwing him over by getting back whats yours. If insurance doesn't cover the contents of your vehichle - you're screwing yourself over if you don't get whats yours.

Thats just my 2 cents. If I were in your shoes - I'd be fighting mad.

I have never used a compound bow and I never plan to, the guy whose cabin I was at has a Barnett Rev and he is always fiddling with it. It also cost him about 300$ more and my bow still hits harder:D

This is not an accident, it is negligence. You should be fully compensated for the damage done and the driver of the MR2 should experience the full implications for his negligence.

My guess is you had hit him he would screw you. At least it has always worked that way for me. Bad news about the bow.

I don't know the specifics of auto insurance in your state, but I carry an item for property damage on my policy. It would seem like your bow is property that should be covered just like a mailbox or plate glass window or anything else that got damaged in the accident. I'd include the bow in any incident report. You can always negotiate later. If you have good reason to feel bad for him or want to be a nice guy, ask for partial cost of the bow or drop it on the condition that he gets decent tires.

Advice not to drop the 'ganza order is good as well. Any knives you scored will probably hold their value.

yah sorry to hear that. i saw a few car accidents today in Toronto but you guys in Ottawa got alot more snow. I hope it all works out.

Bro all I can say you a got a good heart not suing the kid.

Is it possible you could speak to the kid and his family and work some sort of a payment plan. The kid gets a job or if he already has a job pays you a $100 a month till he pays it off. This isn't a lot of money per month and it will teach the kid about owning up to his responsibility as well.

anyways good luck with everything bro

take care

aj

Unfortunately I am a cheap ass and I elected not to get all the bells and whistles on my car insurance (i.e. accident forgiveness, contents coverage). Furthermore, the plot thickens...turns out the kid is the much younger brother of a family friend, the kid's much older sister. This sister, named Dot (Dorothy), went to university with my parents (the family is BIG, he is the youngest of something like 10 kids, and she is the second oldest). Anyways, she passed in July from a decade long battle with goodness knows how many different types of cancer. I may be an asshole, but I am not going to mention that there was a beautiful piece of engineering in the trunk of my car.

It is illegal not to be insured in Ontario, so yes he did have insurance. But the fact that he drives a sports car, and this is not his first accident is going to make his rates go up so high he won't be able to afford to drive anymore.
