Sorry it took so long to post this, but it was a long weekend. So we decided to give the pups the weekend off and go out with our bows. I have to say, stocking a hog with a bow might be better than hunting with the dogs... Any way here are some pictures for you all...
My two favorite things. My Mission X3 and my ESEE 5
There is a little over 4 miles of land where these pigs are. We found a trail covered in fresh hog tracks and started following in. I counted about 10-15 different sets of tracks ranging from little babies to some that could have been 500+ pounds.
About 2 miles in we came to a clearing to where the lake used to be and walked right up on this.
Group1:
Group 2:
38 in total.
We let them get about 50 yards from us and followed them until they got to a good feeding spot. I crawled up to about 30 yards and took a little 80 pound eater.
I was looking forward to testing out the ESEE 5 on cleaning and quartering her. I usually use a set of 3 knives for everything, but this time I was determined to on use my 5 from beginning to end...
Cut through the hide like it was butter.
It unzipped her better than some of the high dollar gut hooks that I have.
Hacked through the pelvic bone in 2 whacks.
I skinned and quartered her when we got back to the house, but it was too dark for my camera. I used my ESEE for everything from putting her down (I shot a little high and got a lung/spine shot) to skinning her and quartering her. All in all I say that the ESEE 5 was made to do everything you need it to do. Pork loins tonight!!!!
