I read that you have to kill off 75% just to MAINTAIN the population that they are at now. You have to kill of 90% to actually get the number to slow down... Crazy. I would have to kill 30+ hogs a day for a couple weeks.
 
I always want to see one when I am hunting, but there isn't many in Ohio to see where I am hunting. I am glad there isn't a lot, but I really do want to get one.
 
man, i need to get on the bandwagon and learn how to field dress a large game animal. it might be useful knowledge when SHTF in 2012 :D this is on my to-do list for this year after i get my family situated in our new house.

You're gonna have to get really politically incorrect. You need to stick a female democrat moslem that believes in abortion and saving the spotted owls. If you do that while wearing a Sarah Palin mask then we might have one or two on the forum that will get their feelings hurt. If not then we can go another direction and torture a couple of poor homeless kids or something.

Ain't that the truth. They're all over my place tearing up the pasture. You run outside with an AR and pop 3, then 6 more show up in their place. Even when you put a dent in the population they make a comeback in short order.

FWIW, ...NOTHING will screw up prime deer hunting acreage like a pack of HOGS...NOTHING!!! They root and paw everything and compete with deer for browse and acorns. I've seen them devastate food plots that took the entire season to nurture in a single night. The toll they take on agribusiness is just staggering... soybeans, peas, sorghum, corn, everything is fair game. Take it from one who knows, if you don't have hogs in your area consider yourself BLESSED!

ESEE knives are great pig skinners. We have used both the 3 and 4 numerous times for that task.

About 15 years back they used Cyanide pods to get rid of an over population of Coyotes in west Texas. I threw the idea out one day at a local dinner and almost got kicked out. It pissed so many people off that they were seriously talking about calling the police on me. That is when I realized that all the stupid arse city dwellers moved out to the country to "get away", and now I can't make my living the way I need to because they get their wittle feelings hurt. We lost 25 acres of hay last year alone. We lost 4 goats last week because of hogs. They suck and if they didn't taste so dang good I would put cyanide pods out myself!!!!
 
Congrats on the successful hunt. I went and looked at some damaged pastures yesterday. The landowner wants me to thin the herd and I am happy to help them. Be careful what you wish for if you do not have feral hogs running around. Give it time, they are spreading across the US and you might just get your wish ;) I like hunting and eating them, just really have to stay on top of them as they multiply soooo quickly.
 
Just to give everyone an idea. This sow had about 8 little ones with her that were probably between 2-6 months old. She was had 4, they can have 10+) more babies inside her. Their gestation period is only 4 months, roughly. They can do this 4 times a year. You do the math. It is astronomical!!!!
 
I say plant dynamite and corn all at the same location, Keep an eye out and when they come to eat the corn, take out the whole lot of them with one big blast. You can still buy dynamite, I think, if you sign for it and specify your uses, etc.

They do travel in big groups. I bet I could take out a good number of them with some well placed det chord!
