As all of you know Tom Krein is the master of the regrind. Many of you know he is a bit of a Kershaw fan. I suspect most folks have seen his regrinds of the main bevel. Tom just completed something a little more complex for me. Here are some pics.

You can see how the main bevel was ground down to a thinner edge. Tom thinned this one out a little up front near the tip then tapered it as he went back, so, the front edge is thicker for my EDC type stuff and it is a super thin slicer near the back. It should make for some interesting cutting in the kitchen. Great stuff right......but wait.........there is more. Tom reworked the swedge for me...seen next post.

The swedge is a little more pronounced now and the grind lines are nice and crisp.

I'll try to get some comparison shots with an unmoded Random Task on Sunday. It is amazing how much steel was removed from this one.:D

Edit: I forgot to add.....Tom Krein is one heck nice guy to deal with. He puts in a serious A+ effort and calls to check in when he has a question, or, to let you know when he is finished with your blade and ready to ship.

Picked one heck of a knife for him to regrind. Having only one RT myself, I cant bring myself to do anything other than keep it in the box and look at it on the occasion.

Most sweet.

No worries J, I bought this one off the bay. Some dill hole spilled battery acid on the blade. It looked bad and it wouldn't polish out. This one was a user from the start. I couldn't bring myself to use either of my NIB RTs

I was thinking the same thing...of all the knives to have modified.

It looks great...Tom did a great job. I always carry my small classic Sebenza that Tom did when I'm around other knife people just I can whip it out and say..."but have you seen one like this before?"

This one is going to be a true one off. It will go to STR soon to have the liners anodized and to get fitted for a low rider. When that is done it may have a U812 lanyard waiting on it.......It is kinda my "Best of Bladeforums" knife.:thumbup:

That reminds me of a question I've had for some time: How does Tom do all that grinding without taking the temper out of the blade and ruining the heat-treatment?

I would imagine the answer is only one option: Slowly, with frequent cooling.

That looks great. I've been trying off and on to talked to him about working on some knives for me, but I can't get any response. Maybe he's mad at me.

Very, very nice Dustin! I love the look of the Krein logo on the Kershaw blade. What a great job!!

It tempts me to send one of mine in......

Nah...he's not mad at you. He's not a full-time maker so his schedule (ER nurse) can get a little crazy. Send some emails and/or give him a call. He'll get back to you when he can....it can take a little while sometimes.

That looks super!

Tom is a man of magic. i really like the job he did for me on my ZT301.

Nice SA! Glad to hear your 'Task was already "Dill Holed" before being modded. When I saw the first pic I almost let loose in my drawers. My Random Task is not mint, but I couldn't bring myself to modding it.

Mr. Krien does awesome work for sure. I'm going to be contacting him soon to see if he can work some of his magic on a Speed Bump.

Dustin...

That's amazing...looks just great and it's now truly a one-of-a-kind RT! :D

Kudos to Tom!

Ray :)

I have a TK Redround Mini Cyclone ZDP that is amazing wish it had the logo though

Tom actually called me to ask if I wanted the logo. He said it was asked for so frequently that he just recently had a logo made up for his regrinds. For future reference, and any one interested, It looks very good in person.

This is funny because I have a random task that met a belt sander that I wanted get sent off for Tom to do his magic on. This Blade shape begs For a Krein regrind.
