A little praise for Tom Krein

My first (so far only) regrind is a Blue Bump. He made beautiful work out of the recurve, as well as enhancing the swedge. I'll try to take a pic.

Unfortunately, I dropped the piece, and the tip broke. My fault, so I took my dremel and sloped the top down to the edge. Mucked it up a tiny bit, but it still looks great to me.

I'd have loved to get his logo. Maybe the next one...

Good to see the RT made it back safe and sound! Glad you are happy with the work. It should be a cutting SOB!!

That reminds me of a question I've had for some time: How does Tom do all that grinding without taking the temper out of the blade and ruining the heat-treatment?

Your concern is appropriate. Heat can/will build up and ruin a blade if not done correctly. Especially on a thinly ground blade!

With that said this is actually something ALL knifemakers do on a regular basis. We all grind and polish our knives after heat treatment. Fresh/sharp belts and frequent trips to the water bucket gets it done. I also grind holding the blade in my bare hands. I CAN feel the heat build up and it gets painful WAY before it would damage the blade.

That looks great. I've been trying off and on to talked to him about working on some knives for me, but I can't get any response. Maybe he's mad at me.

I am NOT mad at you.;) Feel free to give me a call at your convenience or email/PM me. I try to respond to all requests, but am sure I miss more than a few.

I have a TK Redround Mini Cyclone ZDP that is amazing wish it had the logo though

The Krein Regrind logo is new. I simply had too many requests not to listen. It is not mandatory on my regrinds, but I offer it. If you have a regrind I have done and want it I will add it at no cost if you cover shipping.

Tom is a very talented maker, grinder, craftsman and a hell of a nice guy.

Ken, I really don't know what to say. Coming from you my friend that is HIGH praise indeed! Thanks!

Tom
