a little rust prevention test

Try frog lube it's great stuff it cleans and keeps things from rusting its also no toxic so if you use your knife to cut food you don't have to worry about toxins it works great as a lube as well as cleaner, I use it on my 1911 as well as my knives and it may be my imagination I have never done a test but I think the 1911 jams less since I started using it, anyhow it's great give it a try

Some folks were asking for a long-term update. 5 months seems long enough:

Thanks for the long term scientific evaluation loonybin. Forget the speculation. The proof is in the pudding.

Is this test aimed at long-term storage?

Not particularly. If I was looking only at long-term storage, I'd have had the Armadillo, Renaissance Wax, and goopy, thick paste-like rust preventers. This was mostly looking at lubes that claim rust prevention. I threw in the Armadillo because I had some and because I remember when it came out how folks were saying that they didn't need to lube the rails on their pistol slides because it was nice and slick and acted like a lube.

I don't have anything productive to add, just wanted to say thank you for your work and attention to detail. Threads like these are what makes BF great. Great info man.

You did a wonderful job here and learned a bit from it. I was looking into getting some tuff glide, and this just gives me another reason to want to try it out.

This is the best rust preventative besides cosmoline.

Eezox is really good stuff. You certainly don't want to spray it in an enclosed space (I find it almost as nasty as brake cleaner or Birchwood-Casey Gun Scrubber) but it lingers on metal for quite some time and does a great job at preventing rust. It also cleans pretty well, which is something that most of the combo cleaner/lubricant/preservative products aren't very good at.
