A friend of mine (kgd, on the forums) and I got together for a quick overnight camp in the woods across from my place. Before we left, I touched up his well-worn BRKT Aurora on my waterstones. He shot some video and although it isn't that special, I think it's the only one I've ever posted here is Shop Talk. I was putting a convex edge on this knife. It had the geometry of an axe and a bit recurved. This knife has seen lots of action.

Feel free to hack apart my technique. Doesn't mean I'll listen, though. I'm good at ignoring posts that force me to confront my inadequacies.:cool::p

I might as well post the video of our outing, too. I was putting my FUG knife through the paces. The knife purists might want to hold onto someones hand... there is some prying.:p:p

Always, always, always love watching people sharpening. It's so mesmerizing, bringing calmness and peace to my soul :)

Very nice videos! Great sharpening video and serious chopping!

I have a question. I see you are mostly pulling the blade toward you instead of slicing away into the stone. Have I been using the water stones wrong by slicing into the stone?

If you are getting your knives sharp and aren't damaging the stones, I don't see how it could be wrong. Personally, I find waterstones too soft to use the slicing method.

Me too, Don. Wally Hayes taught me how to sharpen with stones and put me on to Murray Carter. Watching someone skilled at sharpening is mesmerizing. I don't consider myself very good, but am flattered you like the video.

Lame.

You told me you were going to show some skin in this video. I want the $12 I sent you back!!!!!!

Job well done on the video, kgd! Very professional!!! Sad that you have to use such a gort for the subject, though. Make sure you wash that knife after he hands it back to you -- you DON'T want to know where his hands have been!!!!:barf::D

Good work, Rick - always fun to see how others do it.

Gort!.... Ha! This is the first time I've heard someone called that... I love old sci-fi flicks.

Thanks for sharing Rick. All that forestial destruction makes me want to start work on that Kukri. Now if I could only find some darn 5160. :(

I may call myself a knife user but have never claimed to use them properly.:p

That is quote worthy. I just may have to use it in the future. Great videos. The sharpening one showed me that I have a few things that I can improve on. In the second one. Your "axe" has a short handle. LOL

Very nice Rick!

Did Tai make that knife for you? :D
