this is probably not new, but anyway. Q-tips, the ones with plastic stem. cut off just past the cotton and stick in the hollow pins of your knife handle. they light up pretty good with bsa hotspark and the plastic will burn for awhile.
just an easy way to carry some firestarter.
 
Excuse me for being obtuse, but the hollow pins of my knife handle? What part do I stick where? Where do I find this on my Native or Kabar?
 
A lot of knives have thong holes in the handles. I think this is what he means.
 
some knives (example; some bark river knives) come with hollow pins to help hold the handle scales on. on a kabar combat handle you can drill down through the edge of the pommel and make a lanyard hole or two, one for lanyard and one for q-tip fire material. my two pennies.
