For a site that is all based on the outdoors and survival I see alot of stuff that is posted on here that looks brand new. How can you have a personal survival pack that looks like it was just taken out of the store or all these day packs or assault pack that look like they have never been used even once. Even knives that dont have a scratch on them, just to get the stuff and not use it blows my mind. I am sorry if i offended anybody that was not my intent, just noticing stuff i guess

as far as knives go i think that a lot of guys here have dozens of knives they EDC. myself i have appx. 40 knives i rotate for weekend carry. most look like new. or nearly new. my only work knife ( 34ot ) looks like hell. :D

I got my Badlands pack at the beginning of the summer and have hiked over 50 miles (all together) with it so far.

It still looks brand new.

I don't know what to tell you, I guess it's just good quality. ;)

I always seem to snap pics of em right when I get em.... Kinda a showin em off to everyone. Then they get used, and I usually dont take many pics again of em....

My PSK gear looks new, because Ive never used it. Havent had to.

Plus I take care of my tools so they will take care of me.

Yeah, there is a lot of truth to this. We tend to glam the new stuff. Also you will find that all through the forums. First and foremost, bladeforums is a knife haunt. Everbody here appreciates the aesthetics of cutlery.

Also, I've been EDC'ing a maxpedition bag for 4 mo now. It sees daily carry to work and lots of dirt time on weekends. Good gear like this stuff hardly seems to show any wear anyhow. Unless of course what you want to see is mud.....

I had my RC-4 for 30 mins before people were ridiculing me for it looking too new. Since then it's gained some character!

My Falcon II looked new until hunting season this year. Now there is dirt, blood and grime on it. LOOKS PRETTY NOW!! The RC-3 strapped to the side looks new after some soap, water and mineral oil. Great field dressing knife.

My new RC-6 finally got a little "character" when I used it in the rain.

I tell you though, they are built like tanks. I dropped mine on a concrete floor, you could tell that it hit at an angle and one of the scales shifted off center. I took it into my office and whacked it on the table three or four times and it lined up perfectly; no lose scales, not even any evidence from the holes that it ever shifted, now THAT is tough.

Pretty much what the others said.

We take pics when the stuff is new, rarely once it's used.
Some stuff, like Kifaru and such, even once dirty, it washes off and looks like new.

Eh, like the rest. I tend to take photos of new stuff. Once it's used, it's just not interesting to me anymore. I could take photos of my beat ass gerbers and benchmades, but in my mind it'd kinda be like taking a photo of my car keys.

^^^What CP said. We use em! But pics of them are most always new (out of bag), and we like to keep our tools sharp and efficient, so therefore they usually look pretty nice and kinda new anyway.

I don't know...I'm new to the forums and I've seen plenty of new lookin' and used lookin', as well as knives put to trials that border on abuse. I'd say that it should be pretty clear that folks that know what they are talking about take care of what they got cause they respect it, not cause they baby it. Or folks that are pumped about a new knife and want to share it will post the first picture they take.
Myself, I just bought an Izula, which probably won't see any real "abuse" until next spring when I can get out on some long backpacking trips.
I mean, when you buy a new car you wash it 4 times a week, right? Until, eventually, you start to get that its a tool for transportation and you can't avoid every pothole/scratch...
Just sayin'....

Hey please don't take this the wrong way i am not trying to call any body out or anything and i can appreciate taking pictures when you first get your new gear, i am just making an observation.

I just posted this in the oil thread, but here is a little ugly for you :D

Everyone knows that RAT Cutlery knives are not made to be used. We're building safe queens here. Use them? That would be a shame!

I do that too. Also, I have far too many knives for all of them to be hard users.

Plus the coating doesnt want to wear off my Izula. I've battoned it, skinned game, made fuzz sticks and the coating just seems to stay.

A little Hollywood magic on that safe Queen, huh Jeff? Amazing how they can "age" something to make it look used.
