a little too new

I heard that if it gets rusty you can just send it back and they'll send you a new one. :D:D:D

For a site that is all based on the outdoors and survival I see alot of stuff that is posted on here that looks brand new. How can you have a personal survival pack that looks like it was just taken out of the store or all these day packs or assault pack that look like they have never been used even once. Even knives that dont have a scratch on them, just to get the stuff and not use it blows my mind. I am sorry if i offended anybody that was not my intent, just noticing stuff i guess

Several possible explanations spring to mind:

1. People take pics of gear when they get it, at which time it is new.

2. It is not getting used much because:
(A) A lot of people don't get outdoors as much as they would like.
(B) Some posters are posers.

3. Good gear and/or well maintained gear shows wear slowly.

4. Kits that are true survival packs are, almost by definition, used very seldom.

Pick your favorite, I bet its a combination of all of them though.

Or as said before... my pics are taken when I receive the item in the mail. From then on I don't sit around and take pics of my stuff.

Or maybe I don't judge my self worth by the number of scratches on my RC4 coating.

Yea. There are extreme examples of hard nose use and abuse. On the other hand, I've got a buck woodsman that I've carried for about 15 years. That knife has seen some use, and a hell of a lot of miles. Other than being slightly lighter from many sharpenings, and a little sheath wear, the knife is in good condition. I've got mag lights about that old with original anno on them too. Just cuz you take care of your gear, doesn't mean it isn't being used. I'm not easy on gear. But I'm not overly abusive either. *shrug*. I'll bust out thecamera this weekend and take photos of my oldest stuff.

Here's one of our safe queens:

I have maybe 10 SERE knives, both Ontario and Camillus, that mirror this RAT. The HEST is getting there-maybe a little too fast for my liking, but after 3 months it is definately NOT new-though I could still perform surgery with it.

I use each and every blade I get. They may look new because I clean them right after I use them, but they are all well used.

I believe most of the new look knives look new due to previously given reasons. They show the picture of when they first got it.

Thats good to see some rats in use. And I agree properly cared for equipment does age slowly but I have seen alot of stuff that looks like it has never seen a leaf let alone a campsite or trail so, but who am I to judge. I would post some up but over the last few days i got the blue screen of death on my computer and our systems maintainer fixed me up but the port for scan discs is not working so when my wife sends me the cable to plug my camera into my computer i will post pics up of my blades and gear i know mollysurvival requested to see them, so the wait time for packages to get from Ft. Lewis Wa. to FOB Sykes Iraq is about 10 days so i will be putting up some pics then.
