A little worried about strength

Hi, I just bought three new survival knives, after years of only having folders. They are all by MTech: The MT-573, HK-6001, and the HK-2044. The MT is full tang, so I'm not worried about the structural strength of that one, however the 2044 has a hollow handle with a butt cap for storing matches and the like, and so is not full tang. The 6001 I'm not quite sure about, since there is an alan screw in the pommel which makes me think it may be hollow. My question here is, should I be worried about the overall strength of these knives, seeing as they're not full tang?

If you are worried about the strength of those, I would ditch the chinese crap and get an ESEE or Becker etc...

What do you mean by "strength" anyway? Are you talking about ability of the knife to handle lateral stress like from prying? Knives are made for cutting, poking and chopping anyway, if you want a sharpened prybar, you'll need to pay for that privilige.

I do agree with bd51, rather than buying a bunch of questionable-quality knives, just buy one good one that will last you a lifetime. Before you start asking what's a good survival knife, I would suggest that you use the search function here.

you need an esee 4 bro!

i would not use m-techs as beater blades (or anything else for that matter) you can get a mora for around the same price that will last longer than an m-tech.

im not trying to bash you knives, im just stating my opinion.

Right, they all seem solidly constructed, and they're pretty sharp too, all things considered, I just thought that fixed blade knives weren't all that great unless they're of the full tang variety

Stay away from hollow handles unless they, and the blade are made from the same piece of steel like a CS Bushman, and I think Schrade markets one for something like 40 bucks.

full tang knives are probably the strongest type of fixed blade but unless your really beating the living hell out og your blades it doesnt really matter.

The only good hollow handle is the CRK one which was [ no longer produced] made of one piece of steel.

Ahem.

(And it's not made from one piece of steel, either.)

Well, not really a THING. Mete and I have both been around here way too long for that.:D

I've run them through a few tests and they're pretty damn solid. They chop well, they cut well, they stab well, and they're still rock solid. For the price, I'd say they're worth it

That is one HELL of a knife. I'll have to pick one of those up for sure. Also, what, in your opinion, would be a good manual sharpener? I'm looking to spend less than $50, preferably in the $10-30.
