A *lot* of bad Chinook IIs - Mr. Glesser, please have a look!

Dear Fellow Spyderians,

To add my $ 0.02 here, I received my Chinook II in the second week of January, and it has been solid upon opening, and I find no blade play all the way down to the nesting position of the blade. It has not loosened during four months of use.

I do appreciate learning how to adjust the action if it becomes necessary.

BTW, mine was from Emergency Options — excellent to deal with from start to finish.

Best Wishes,

Harvey K

I took my Chinook 2 out of the box about a half an hour ago.

I am able to induce a barely noticable amount of vertical blade movement using the most amount of force I am able to apply with a somewhat dangerous grip out near the tip. Barely noticable; maybe its my imagination? No. It is there... None grasping the hole.

I cannot induce any lateral blade movement.

The lockup is certainly one of the more solid I've encountered in folders of similar price point. Folders of double or triple, for that matter.

Erik, it sounds like your CII has exactly the same kind of play as mine. It really doesn't bother me at all, but I'd like to know whether it affects lockup strength, so I plan to contact Spyderco CS to find out. I'll post their response.

I contacted Spyderco and Mike assured me that the tiny amount of play in the lock does not reduce lock strength. :)

As with Erik, I can't even feel this play at the hole -- I have to (gingerly) grab near the tip of the blade and pull/press pretty hard to feel it.

Hi again!

Today, NGK sent me the 2nd (hand-picked!) Chinook II. It has very very slight vertical blade play, but only if you push hard at the tip of the knife - no issue at all, lock-up is rock solid.

The lateral blade-play from the 1st Chinook II I got is completely non-existent in this knife, however hard I try the blade doesn't jiggle at all. Just the way it should be.

Now I can finally enjoy my Chinook II. It really fits my hand well (great handle design - I have no other knife which I can grip that securely) and I think it's a formidable self-defense weapon especially for slashing.
