Well...after playing with the little Bushlore last night I just couldn't resist....I decided to put my fuzzy making skills to the test and see if I could get fire with a spark without using fatwood. I usually use fatwood just because it is so easy and there is so much of it here. It worked out fine so on dry days if I don’t have any fatwood handy it doesn’t matter. Now to see how many other natural tinders I can play with :D

I made a few more fuzzy curls and started collecting them on a leaf…the wind was blowing a bit so I had to weight the leaf down.

Then I got what I made last night and my firesteel.

Gathered up some tinder and small ships for fuel. Then put the leaf on some drift wood to light it.

Then hit the tinder with a few sparks…did take a few times…and then the fire came to life.

Then starting adding the fuel

Soon had a good fire going, and had to put it out when it started catching the log on fire. Before anybody asks again this is one of my work areas, it was a temp deck on my brothers house I built and I brought it out here…thinking about turning it into a small building but for now…..

very cool... Rick makes some great looking knives...

I love this knife! I can't believe I gave it to my daughter....but it was all in the deal and discussion when I purchased it that it was for her...darn it. So...I was just going to buy me another...then I got laid off three times in one year and that plan has been put on indefinite hold...darn it.

Talfuchre and Rick have a little comedic feud you might say Mistwalker....It is a great looking little blade. Not that there is anything wrong with your pictures, but pictures never seem to do Rick's leather slabs justice of what they actually look and feel like.

I think this was the first test of the leather slab handles. I've....um *cough cough*....Sarah's had it almost a year now and it's holding up well..no loosening or movement. I just snapped a couple of pics looking at the tang from both sides I'll try to get them uploaded in a few. I love the feel of this handle.

Great knife and great pics, thanks for sharing them buddy !!!!

You should watch Ricks video on U-tube though about just striking the last 1/2" of your Ferro rod....makes them last a lot longer !!!!

Thanks Pit, glad you liked them.

Oh...I've watched, h#ll I'm even "subscribed" lol, and I've even been lectured about it by the man himself...it's just hard to break old habits. Actually today was about half and half as I was hearing the lecture in my head :D

Here are those pics of the spine I just snapped, the handles scales are holding up fine from a good bit of "normal" use...never had it in a creek or anything yet though. I just noticed a spot of rust on the bottom of the tang...guess I'll hear about that too, but then I can say hey...it's not my knife :p

Oh man.... you really are taking over that knife, dude! I'm emailin' Sarah!!

Thanks for the comps, KGD.... you da man!

Don't worry bout Talfelcher... he's still angry that he never went through puberty as a teenager. He thought he had his first pubic hair... until he peed out of it.

Very Cool Brian, great pics as always too.
I just love fires LOL Great job man.
That is neat to do with just a firesteel and some curls

Well now...no not really...today she was here when I was messing with it....or part of the time, she caught me out there after she got in from school. She looked at her knife, looked at me and shook her head. Said if I dulled it I better sharpen it back. Shoot...she's got other things on her mind right now anyway, driver's license...and then when we went for coffee after a concert she played and she was all beaming showing me some boys (that she lost track of back in middle school) phone number she got...even borrowed a pen from her chemestry teacher  ...I only know this because she she was at Rembrandts too she had to tell me about in a way she didn't think Sarah would get it any trouble after Sarah al bright and cheery shouted across the room to thank Kelly for letting her use her pen. Probably won't be long before I'm sitting on the front porch in site of the swing sharpening every knife I own contunually cutting things with them just...um...because ;)

Man, that is sweet. I saw a thread on one of the British sites, BB or BCUK. That's gotta be the same one...
Awesome. I love the leather handle idea. Looks like it cuts like mad.

Yep...I posted it on a UK site as well.

Trust me, it does cut very well, I got distracted earlier and almost dropped it...sort of wish I had now :o but the bleeding has stopped and I didn't nick the blade on the concrete :D

great pics,,

Thanks guys, glad you like.

Nice! BTW, that is my favorite Nietzsche quote

Thanks, it's a great knife! I think since everyone considers it "bombproof" I want one with a micarta handle so I can take it to the field with me and not worry about it getting soaked for hours in the rain or dunked in creeks but from what I've seen so far this should last Sarah a life time.

One of my favorites as well, the man was indeed very wise.

Rich makes some nice stuff from what ive seen/heard. and yup... Mr. Fred was indeed wise...dunno if you are aware of a guitar player named Chuck Schuldiner (R.I.P.) but he used that quote in one of his last albums.
