that Saddam has defended himself by saying he needed to take drastic measures to preserve order in the country. I believe that the kill them all response of many people shows that a lot of folks agree with his tactics in their guts>>>>>>> Hollow
Everyone has rage; civilized people don't act upon it. Posts talking about mass eradication are simply letting off steam. Suggesting that many people would seriously agree with Saddam's tactics helps blur the line between the actions of the US and the actions of Saddam. It is part of a largely unconscious wave of misperception sweeping avante garde Europe and the Left US.
You know, even Hitler thought he was doing good to gas Jews, a favor to the rest of us of purer blood. That one could consider gassing Kurds a logistical problem does not moraly compare to the US attempt to bring a better world through a free Iraq.
I belonged to the "Left" when it represented what I thought was the most common sense. No longer. I never thought I'd vote Republican- but there you go. I never thought the Party of reform and change would be against school vouchers either, as the Democrats are today. The democrats are the status quo, while the Republicans have represented real change the last 10 years. Too bad they don't get credit for being avante garde.
