What a story about your brother. I know this story all too well from a brother of mine. This'd he is still living and doing better lately; I know the feeling of waiting for a call about him. It's great that your brother seemed to get better at the end. Good tells us to always hope.

I'm in for one of my younger brother's foster kids. They're awesome kids, the kind that makes you astonished the birth parents can't pull it back together for. My brother and his wife have taken care of many sets of foster kids but these ones are special and they are in the process of adopting them. Though they are young, they will be going on their first camping trip in a couple weeks and it would be awesome if their soon-to-be-father had a knife to break in for them on that first trip...

Not an entry as I am not in the US or Canada but I just wanna say thank you for sharing your story with us. It's very meaningful.

Not an entry.

Thank you for sharing your touching story. I am very sorry for your loss. Thanks for the amazing giveaway.

Thankyou for sharing your story. Its really too easy to get caught up in the day to day hustle and forget whats important.

Ill join the giveaway. My step son is boy scout and would do backflips if he received this knife.

Thankyou again for your words and this opportunity.

Thanks for sharing the story, it's always tough losing the hard fought battles.

Don't know anybody to give the knife to since I am the only one in my surroundings carrying them, but thanks for the story. I lost my two best friends (one car accident 29 y/o and one stroke 33 y/o) a couple of years ago. Wish you all the best.

First of all, thank you for sharing your story with us. It really touched my heart and is a very powerful reminder of what is most important in life. It was hard to hold back the tears while reading. I am in for the give away. I would give the knife to my 8 year old step son. He is a cub scout and just moved up from a wolf to a bear. Thanks for the opportunity.

Im sorry to hear about your brother- I think this is the best idea for a GAW that I have heard of. My good friend from high school has a son that just turned 7 and is involved in scouts. I think that this would be a great gift for him as he is learning the proper ways to handle and use a knife. It is something that he would love and I would feel awesome gifting him. Thanks again for the opportunity! I'm in!

Please count me in. What a nice gesture ! My first knife was as a Cub Scout in 1954. I was so proud of that knife. Now, I have a 8 yr old grandson, that I hope I'll be around long enough to give him his first knife - it will be a Scout knife - next year.

Just a heads up, today is the last day to enter this giveaway. I'll be pulling a winner tomorrow. I wish I could give you all knives, but I'm afraid I can't quite afford that (by can't quite, I of course mean nowhere near). Good luck to everyone who entered

NOT AN ENTRY,

but thank you for sharing your touching story. It broke my heart a bit and I just want to send my condolences, late as they may be. Take solace in the fact that your brother is still checking in on you, and is probably smiling right now at the fact that his favorite knife is going to be passed down to another youngster to enjoy.

God bless, brother. When you get home today, give Abby a great big hug from TX. I know I'll do the same when I get home to my daughter.

Alright, time to pick the winner. I've gone to Random.org. The first number is 16, which is SadSappySucker, not an entry. The next number is 2 which is asdf12345.

Congrats asdf12345, and to your cousin.

Thank you everyone for participating and for your words.

I wasn't going to enter but wanted to respond anyway. abbydaddy, you and I have corresponded recently on a passaround. I saw your post and read it. Powerful stuff. Thanks for sharing that.
I had a quick story of my own to share because your Boy Scout knife reminded me of my own. When I was 8, (over 4 decades ago) my dad bought me an Ulster (I think) standard Boy Scout knife. I kept that my whole life and carried it on many adventures over the next 40 years with him, and then my own sons. He passed away a few years ago at the young age of only 69. In a private moment of my own at the funeral, I slipped that knife into his pocket, giving it back to the man who gave it to me. I felt that if he were going anywhere, he'd need a knife in his pocket. He had given me 40 years of adventures in the outdoors and instilled a love of those things in me. I have more memories with him than I can count. It's the greatest thing he ever did for me. So there it is.
Thanks again for the story abbydaddy.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm in. I would give the knife to my younger brother. He's almost 10 and it's about time to get him a knife. He's in cub scouts right now and he'll be a boy scout before long.

Thank you for the words Hale Storm, and for the story. I really feel like there is something special about the standard Boy Scout knife, which is why I thought it would be a good giveaway. I'm sorry for your loss.

To Fangleki and Indiana Joe, I'm sorry to say the knife has already been awarded and sent off. I'll probably do another giveaway next year though ;)
