ive looked through most of the pictures and most have the etching of the spider on the blade. mine is an s30v combo edge blade and it says military on the blade instead of the spider etch. according to the box it was made on 10/24/03 and the model says c36gpse do i have the correct box and do i have a real spiderco, it was bought off ebay and its my first spydie folder. i got duped on a fake BM so im kinda leery.

also: when did spyderco go away from the all gray boxes to the red and black ones, mine came in a gray box.
 
The red and black boxes are a rolling change over still in progress. They probably still have some of the grey boxes in the warehouse, although I have not seen any lately. The change over started some time last year.

hard to say if it is genuine without at least a picture, but I would guess it is. They just switched over from the "MILITARY" etch to the bug by the hole in the last two or three years.

The 440V at the top right has the MILTARY etch, but it didn't come through in that picture.
 
Thanks. I seem to be using that picture a lot lately. Maybe I should put it in my signature line :D
