The other threads about wilderness survival had a limit on the number of items; I think it would be fun to do with a limit of the volume of items.

Heres the rules, You are allowed a nalgene, whatever you can fit inside, and one other item. For example the other items may be a hatchet, or a .22 rifle, but not a .22 rifle and bullets, or not a hatchet and sharpener.

I will post my list at a later time.

So what you are saying is that if the bullets fit inside the nalgene they are okay? Same for the sharpener? If that is so, then this will be some fun :D.

humm well I'll take water in the nalgene-- I need water to live, and a cooked 20 lb turkey in my other hand,or as much food as I can hold Now lets look for home real fast.

I was thinking of the 32 oz bottle, sorry I should have specified.

batosai117, yes, you can take a .22 as your 1 outside item, and as many bullets as fit in the bottle if you wish. Same with the hatchet, you can take a hatchet, and a sharpener, as long as the sharpener would fit in the nalgene.

For example I could list

-.22 lr as my one outside item

All the following items inside the nalgene
50 bullets, Multi tool, plastic bags (5), diamond stone sharpener, Para cord, ect ect

You can not say .22 and bullets as the one outside item.

I hope this is clear.

Let’s assume that you have clothing that is appropriate for where you are going and there is running water in the area. You are not in an area you can ‘walk out of’

- Nalgene
- Fallkniven F1
- Victorinox Farmer
- Firesteel
- Bic Lighter
- Bic Lighter
- Bahco Folding saw (might fit???)
- Fishing Kit
- 550 Cord
- DC4

-Gransfors Scandinavian Forest axe

EDIT: I'm gonna be right back... I gotta see how much of this I can fit in one. :D

Alright... well the nalgene was smaller than I thought. :D

The Bahco didn't quite fit, and the F1 was just a little too long. so I changed the list:

- Nalgene
- Spyderco Manix
- Victorinox Farmer
- Firesteel
- Bic Lighter
- Bic Lighter
- Fishing Kit
- 550 Cord
- DC4

-Gransfors Scandinavian Forest axe

I'm a wilderness novice compared to some of the experienced posters here but I actually do use a Nalgene (32 ounce) as a survival kit in my backpack.
Contents
Vic Hunstman (in a sheath)
LED light
Matchbox with Compass top (matches inside)
Bic lighter
film cannister full of petroleum jelly and cottonballs
Whistle/magnifying glass/thermometer/compass tool on a lanyard
Army scout ferro rod on the same lanyard
Film cannister full of fishing line/hooks/sinkers/lures
Film cannister full of thread/ needles/safety pins/a few waxed matched and a striking surface
Small ziplock full of bandaids/Aspirin/polysporin etc.

I also wrap some ducttape around the outside of the bottle as well, lol!

I usually have a small 18 ounce nalgene full as well
Contents
Gerber clutch
Spork
Emergency poncho
Emergency blanket
Signalling mirror
peanut lighter

So there are 48 ounce Nalgene bottles? Haven't seen them around here.
I could fit all that in one of those i'm sure.

Edited to add Fiskars axe as my external tool of choice.

I might add a couple of high energy bars - I saw these at their store in Georgia.
And swap out some of the items for better or bigger items.
Add some 22 ammo and a ruger 10/22 and I'm set.

Oh yes, I have one of those that I forgot about until I saw your post. I do remember switching out the carabiner for a heavy duty one, and the flashlight is okay, but you might want to switch that for a mag-lite. Other than that it is a neat little thing to open up. You could also try to fit one of these in there:

http://www.equipped.com/kiackit.htm

This might help add a few extra things that you might have forgotten about. I keep one in my pack just in case, but I've never actually had to open it. Besides, for $9.99usd, I don't want to open it "just because" until I get another one.

Hey i just realised i can fit one of my "Kit" Moras in a 32 ounce nalgene bottles! And thats with the top screwed on.
So how tall are those 48 ounce nalgenes?

I've never made one of these, but I'll give it a shot.

These are the things that I would shove inside of my nalgene:

1. survival/emergency blanket
2. my altoid psk dumped inside of a ziplock bag, this would include:
-lantern flint starter
-box of 20ct wind/water proof matches
-extra flints (5)
-cotton balls
-good size piece of firestick
-small pill sized "just add water and instant towel"
-tube with: two iodine tabs (PA) and two PA Plus to get rid of the iodine taste.
-Another tube with: 50lb spiderwire fishing string, fishing hooks, fishing weight, 6 strike anywhere matches with strike pad, and two needles with thread.
-small eye brush for cleaning out knife (borrowed for an extended amount of time until my GF forgot about it :p).
3. two rolls of 50ft. nylon rope, one will be white, and the other camoflauge.
4. Smith's diamond rod sharpener
5. two small bottles of iodine tabs and PA plus.
6. SAK One hand trekker
7. my EDC right now (CRKT M16-14, this goes in only if it can't go on my pocket)
8. I would stuff in a few of those pill sized "just add water and towel appears"
9. I think (looking at my brick of .22LR) I could easily fit about ~100 bullets.

10. My outside item would be my Henry .22 Lever action rifle, it can hold 12 LR shots at one time, so if I miss my rabbit, I get 11 more tries :D.

Outside the Nalgene I would go with about a 2-3qt. pressure cooker.

Inside the nalgene assuming material is available to build shelter:
-a couple of Bic lighters, mag block &firesteel,
-pocket chainsaw (no handles), SAK or trapper, fixed blade w/duct tape grip (Becker Necker to F1), and maybe 1 broadhead
-fishing tackle (hooks, line, sinkers), 550 cord, some snare wire (10 or so snares), a few needles
-vitamins, salt, 10 tbs. sugar, 6-10 tea bags, couple of packs Kool Aid
-3/4-1lb pasta/rice, 2+ emergency ration bars
-sm. purell, a bar of dense soap or concentrate, triple antibiotic, Imodium AD
-2ea. gallon zip locks, photon light & 1 or 2 extra batteries, diamond sharpener card/rod

Adjust according to what fits and get fired up to be REAL hungry for most of the 30 days.

I'll play, because I am making a nalgene psk soon and this thread is awesome because it will give me ideas. Let me go cram some stuff into a nalgene and see what I come up with. :):)

I keep a Nalgene at work. The FIRST thing that goes into it are 2 one gallon plastic bags, one inside the other, just like a bag liner for your trash. Everything goes in there. In case I need to put water in it, just pull the bags out, no spillage.

Don't forget the outside either. Wrap duct tape around the top and bottom, some paracord, and always wrap some jute twine around it for fire starting.

12 Gauge. Sorry fellas but I am not the hotshot with a .22lr the rest of you are, besides I can change it up more relevant to the environment to which I'm in.

In the Nalgene...

-Manix
-Firesteel
-Snare wires (6 at least)
-H2o Purifier Tabs
-Salt
-Signal Mirror
-NeoSporin
-Krazy Glue
-Fish Hooks, Line
-Pair a panty hose! You never know who is coming to dinnah!

Heres what I've got so far:

-10 35 gallon trash bags
-Mag block with flint and a hacksaw blade
-Spyderco native
-Leatherman wave (or the smaller Swisstool)
-Diamond sharpening stone
-about 10 yards of 550 paracord
-10 multi vitamins, in a container with salt
-Some pain killers (Tylenol perhaps?)
-about 20 square feet of tinfoil (folds to about 2x2 .5)
-Assorted fish hooks, line, sinkers
-about 20 cotton balls compressed
- 10 or so feet of heavy gauge wire
- 20 or so feet of light gauge wire

I've been experimenting with different item combinations and all these things should fit with a little extra room. Doing things like removing the pocket clip from the native save much room.

As for my outside item I’m thinking a large pot as long as it isn’t winter.

Where are your 12 gauge shells ?

They're supposed to be in the Nalgene bottle.

How many do you suppose you'd have room for ?

Just curious.
