A morbid poll -- if you were facing a firing squad would you take the blindfold?

will be a group of venal doctors, trying to keep me going ong enough to wring another grand or so out of my insurance. I would take the smoke, stub it out on the oxygen connector in the room, and have company when I leave. Gives a whole new meaning to "fried lice".

Walosi, in Nevada hospitals are not listed by state law or posted as required. CCW is legal in them. Enough said.

Also, did I mention my shaving kit contains an old but bright, shiny and very well sharpened Solingen straight razor.

Rus, I was told yesterday that "health care facilities" have been taken off the list of restricted carry places here. I haven't seen it in writing yet, but it do open new vistas

I think we have a consensus.

No blindfold -- which does not surprise me.

Nor, am I surprised that the thread moved from firing squads to hospitals -- just par for the course here.

Hospitals have cleaner walls, and don't allow smoking....most of the other differences between them an an execution courtyard are minor.

Same thing, just that the hospitals are dishonest about their intentions. I'd put it considerably stronger, but...

Hey, the two of you posted while I was thinking of what I could get away with posting.

I'm with you guys!! Eyes wide open so I could catch the bullits in my teeth and spit them right back at them!!!:D

If you have to die it's not a bad way to go and I've heard of worse!!

Rusty, That is a long time to wait for your CCP! In Colorado we had to wait a max of 90 days. Guess what, they made me and my wife wait the full 90!!!

Let's see..a blindfold? Er, no, I think I'd settle for a suit of kevlar armor, a helmet and one of those bulletproof riot shields...

At 8:00 a.m. on January 17, 1977, the volunteer firing squad got into place. Four of the five weapons were loaded and one would fire a blank. That way, each man would have some idea that perhaps he was not the one who had ended another man's life. They placed the barrels of their rifles through small square holes in a wall as Gilmore was strapped into a chair. A paper target was placed over his heart and a black corduroy hood over his head. He was strapped into the chair.
Asked for last words, Gilmore said, "Let's do it."
The countdown began. Gilmore appeared calm. There were three distinct shots. His head went forward into the strap, his right hand delicately lifted, then dropped. The spectators he'd requested to witness the event watched as blood flowed from his heart down his shirt and onto the floor. The doctor went forward to listen, and said that he was still alive. In twenty more seconds, it was over.
Compared to electric chair, hanging, gas chamber, and even lethal injection, it sounds pretty good to me. Maybe having two clients on Death Row gives me a warped perspective.

Interesting topic Bill. It is similar to a question I have pondered, myself, quite a few times and, as a coincidence, thought about as recently as one night ago.

If I was to be decapitated in the guillotine, would I rather be on my back (like on a table), and looking up to see the blade coming; or would I rather be looking down in the conventional matter?

By the way, I probably wouldn't take the blindfold.

That was Gary Gilmore, convicted murderer, right Berk?

Since I'm not inclined to murder people I hadn't considered that aspect. I don't think murderers deserve many last requests.

I was thinking more along the lines of a prisoner of war facing execution and, hopefully, given a last couple of small considerations.

I know this post is old enough to drive, and it will probably be moved to the Cantina, but it is still a very interesting thought. I agree with all that don't want the blindfold. I would really appreciate that last smoke too.
