Some years ago I decided to just put a Victorinox Quattro and a P-38 in my wallet and do away with the need for the whole opener layer of the SAK. They go right through TSA screening.

Yeah, the combo tool on my alox bantam seems to work well as needed.

I think this is more in the realm of sales gimmick. I have a private theory that about half the human race is scheming to get money out of the other half of the race. Very often this happens from the sales of little gimmicks that really have very little use, but appeal on spur of the moment sales to some kinds of people that have to have the latest gadget. I'm sure the inventor of the pet rock retired well to do.
