A new 2x4 speed cut world record

Very nice video.
But I think that soon we will need something bigger than 2x4 :)

I agree with idaho, you guys may need to upgrade to a 4x4. On another note, I watched your video with the Damascus chopper, that thing is awesome.

Wow. Ellensburg is my hometown, and I had no idea this went down there .

I was only 9 when I moved, but I wish someone would have taken me to this at some point, my knife appreciation days could have started much earlier :D.

Cool stuff, and congrats.

Man that's just to cool, Looks like he's had alot of practice at that. I wonder how thin or what degree edge he uses in that competition? Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the link - which chopper was he using?

Dan was using his own knife, made from CPM M4. It has a full flat grind, ground to .015 with an approximately a 20 degree secondary bevel.

He has had a ton of practice, but he definitely is a very talented athlete.

Dan is an accomplished sword maker, exercise physiologist, and semi-pro football player.

Very cool but there sure was a lot of missed cuts.

Nice job on the victory Jose. Thanks for the links to the competiton and World Record vids. 1 question, on the vertical straw cut is that a bendy straw bend side up as well?

We will sometimes cut 2x6s and 2x8s in competition. The price of lumber though has increased to amounts that keep us from doing this on a regular basis.

Durring the Damascus video you are referring to, I cut a 2x4, then a 2x8. I do miss that knife. I sold it to a good friend.

Nice job on the victory Jose. Thanks for the links to the competiton and World Record vids. 1 question, on the vertical straw cut is that a bendy straw bend side up as well?

In the vertical straw cut challenge, the crinkles of the straw are on the bottom side. To earn the points one must cut from the top to the bottom of the straw, through these crinkles. It is an all or nothing cut to earn the points. In this competition, the diameter of the straw was also 1/2 of the other straws, making it a particularly hard cut, as it was significantly more delicate. Pushing to hard or fast caused the straw to crease or bend in the wrong spot.

Jose Diaz
