• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

So, I just become aware of this recently, and it is the answer to a lot of problems I've been facing lately.

This short videocast is a great introduction too the "sport": http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/videocast_packrafting_beartrap.html

And this wikipedia page has a lot of good info too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packraft

This is great as it combines hiking with boating, which are my two favorite outdoor activities. Inflatable rafts and kayaks have been around for a while, but these Alpaca rafts just seem awesome.

Anyone have any experience?
What are you thoughts about having something like this for survival? (My thoughts as far as survival goes, is that a lot of ultralight stuff wouldn't be ideal in long term, rough use scenarios).

There is a new book (shipping on the 29th I believe, but you can buy it digitally via the BPL site linked about).

An old geezer friend of mine has been carrying a one-man packraft into remote Sierra lakes for a long time. He says it gives him a big advantage for fishing. The most amusing part is that he paddles it with two very lightweight ping-pong paddles!
