A new appreciation for the Buck 300 series

I started out collecting 110s and thought I'd never even look at the 300s but I have made a complete turn around. All I ever look at is 300s on auction sites and collected information on them. There are so many 300s to collect and they are all cooler than the last bought. I have almost 50, 300 series knives and so many more that I want. When I think that I have put together a set of 300s, I find another set of 300s I need to put together . It's hard to follow just believe me when I say once you start you cant stop!!!!

I was going through my "archives" and found a Buck brochure in my Buckmaster box. I think this is from 1984.

I really, really like the looks of that Trailblazer!! Never seen one before. Were they a short/small run?

Did you get one of the older 319s yet?The one with file work on the leather punch, those are so cool.:thumbup:

I just picked up one a few weeks ago, I really like it, in addition the same week I found an old 317 in mint condition with its org. sheath. I won't say how much I paid but itwoodnt cheap. But I love them so much it didnt matter, I had to have it.

I've posted this picture on other threads but it belongs here too. I currently am awaiting on a delivery for a 307 Wrangler. The collection grows...

It would have been nice , if the knife companies, wouldn't have stopped pinning the shields... Much more durable

Just got a NIB 307 Wrangler. What a monster! Buck should make these again. Here it is with the rest of my 300 collection.

What are the rarest, limited, most expensive 300's??? I have not seen any build-outs...

Clint,

The rarest and most limited are runs done for companies or organizations. Some of less than 100 units. Usually used as awards or gifts for donations. I think one of only 50 314 trappers was done, and those had fancy emblem in scale and presentation wooden boxes. I believe it was a Wild Turkey organization. Companies have ordered small runs of pad printed or etched blades also, as employee awards. I think there is a minimum number now but I keep saying if I win the lottery we will have a 300Bucks jigged bone 303 made...ha

The most expensive will be some of the older David Yellowhorses, especially the custom made ones. Painted Ponies are up there also. Some of the old custom shop 300s made with expensive stuff like ivory scales and file work, etc. will be up there also. Other folks have done costly buildouts using high value steel and scales but the 300s usually aren't to attractive for folks to use that expensive stuff on, being just common ole slipjoints. There are a couple of odd production knives that I have never seen a close photo of or handled in person, but I am keeping my mouth shut on those, you will have to figure those out yourself.

Just for fun, here's a scan from a 1996 SMKW catalog. Check out those 300 series prices.

I just got your message. I'm glad you liked the 1972 301 you won in my drawing. That's it in the middle, isn't it? Great knife. I still use mine.
