I just received my latest acquisition today and I have say, it is simply one of the most beautiful knives I have ever held! Made by Pardi Bugtai, the blade is made from pattern damascus steel, the hilt and butt cap are also pattern damascus, fittings are sterling silver with a hammered copper pice in front of the hilt. The handle is cocobolo, with round abalone shell insets hide the pins in the handle. It is 15" overall, blade is 9 1/4". I've already had to wipe off the drool several times!!

OMFG! That is awesome! And, it's not even my style of knife. Love that blade pattern. :)

Only one thing about this knife that I am not in love with. The brass nut at the butt end looks out of place to me. Still awesome though.

Yeah, but if the knife was perfect, I would never have been able to afford it. ;-)

It's beautiful. I agree about the brass nut thing, but the knife is georgeous. I love daggers and damascus steel.

Is that abalone in the handle?
What kind of wood is the handle made of?

I don't know the proper name for it but I like the way the blade guard is in damascus too. What do you call it? Is it just a blade guard or is there some fancy name for it?

Beautiful blade. I need some damascus stuff.

I also think that brass nut is totally wrong for such a fantastic looking knife. It kind of looks like an afterthought. Stunning otherwise though.

I agree,,should been a Cabochon or somethin',,,still friggin' gorgeous:eek:

I see enough good things going on in this piece to forgive a brass nut. That's a wonderful pattern in the damascus for a double edged knife, and the silver and brass work is incredible. I'd be excited, too!

And who is Pardi Bugtai? Give us the rundown on this acquisition!

Here's what the seller told me about the maker Jim:

"the maker Pardi Bugtai is a Philippine man in his late 50's, he lives in the US now, he told me when he was 16 years old he read a book on how to make knives by Bo Randall and that was the start of his knife making career, I believe he was some sort of fabricator or structural engineer in the Philippines until he retired and came to the US to live near his brother and son's, he has a son that makes the best, the prettiest, and the most unusual custom butterfly knives I have ever seen."

he's unlisted in the Knife Digest, so maybe we've discovered a new star!

Yes.., Pardy is a very nice man.., and also a fine craftsman. I have many of his Balisongs.

He lives in Portalnd Oregon, and his son Rommel is also a talented machinist and knifemaker, and resides here in So California.

Very nice piece you got there! Thanks for the pictures... :)
