a new folder from a Japanese company

Good looking framelock folders but for that kind of money I would order a set of Yamaha Inpres golf clubs from Japan!!!

Hi ryosuke, the folder you are talking about is the last framelock from the japanese Rockstead. That is a semi-custom factory, which in my opinion makes some of the best folders available on the market. They use two kinds of steel: one is a clad steel ZDP189+Ats34, the other is a DLC coated YXR7, a HSS tool steel. The main thing about these knives is the mirror like surface and the convex or semi-convex (Busse like) grind.
These knives are awesome, the price is that high for the quality of the materials used and for the craftmenship: they are made by an industrial process followed by a hand finish for the edge. These are the sharpest of my knives; I have two of them: the Higo and the Shin
Stefano from Italy

yes they look like they are very well made knives and they actually are I think. maybe I'll change my mind and pay that price if I could take it in my hand and find out how good they reallly are.

The -nami- especially appeals to me more than any knife has in a while...:D

But alas, no more knives for me for the forseeable future...:(

Nice knives, though...

Ray :)

RYO if you want to save some money you can contact directly Mr. Hanada, CEO of Rockstead. If he comes to US near where you live he can sell you the knife by person. I met him in Milan (north of Italy) three weeks ago and I payed 790$ for the higo. Mail me if you want his contact detalis

Duralumin is a aluminum copper alloy , one of the first aluminum alloys !!

I wish that the knives from this company were more commonly available in the U.S. It looks very interesting--can you give a translation of any of the specifications, such as blade length, overall length, and weight?

Anyway, thanks for the link.

Thanks...it looks like the new 'Nami' is not listed on the English page, but the similar 'Shin' model lists a blade length of about 3.7 inches and weight of 5.1 oz. Not huge, but bigger than anything offered by William Henry. I would still be interested to know the weight of the 'Nami' (from the link in the OP) if anyone out there can read Japanese.

Reminds me of Strider handles, but a blade that appears to be much nicer design. $900 is alot of money though. If you can get them from the CEO for $790 that's a little better, but more than I can justify for a knife right now.

Something about those knives look tacky to me. I'd honestly rather have 50 Opinel knives and 400 tacos with the leftover money.

Gee, I yahoo searched these knives. I found an Italian company Colletti Knives or something like that. the Koji Hara model folders go for 695euros which is about $834. Euro is going for about 1.20 now. A few weeks ago it was worth 1.50 per euro. Big money in my opinion, but very nice.

Mr.Wutitiz if you are still there, here is the specifications for the folder nami. overall length 216mm blade length 90mm weight 106grams.

ryosuke - Thanks for posting this, first I have heard or seen of them.
Very impressive Indeed

Question though - are they as tough as they look - how is the back of the blade stabilized when locked open - does it rest against a frame pin

Also of the 2 Steel types used, Which is normally preferred - I would assume the Tool steel is forged / better for harder use??

Lastly - what kind of warranty do they have?

Those were some ugly machining marks on the side of the pocket clip (upper knife). On the other hand, the cutout pattern on the other one's handle is gorgeous.

I saw some Rockstead knives at a show here in Taiwan not long ago.

They make some really nice blades, the laminate blades were great but pricy and looked a bit "Mircotechy" in the styling.
They are pretty tough knives, the guy was beating the carp out of a blade at the show and it just lapped it up.

I did consider buying one but ended up going for something else.

If you take a closer look in the picture, there is a stop pin at the spine of the handle touching the very end of the blade when open. I'm not sure how strong duralumin used for the handle but it's stronger than aluminum for sure. Duralumin is a kind of aluminum but stronger. If you are interested in how strong the blade is, you can watch their blade testing video in their website. they show you how strong thier blade is by chopping bamboo and ropes. they have explanations in English also. just click on the "about rockstead" in their website and you can watch the bamboo testing video. they say that they use a computer operated heat treating machine for the blades so that they can heattreat blades without unevenness. I did not ask them or read in their website about warranty but I'm sure they take responsibility for what they make and they surely fix teir knives if damaged. If you want to know more you can email them from their website in English. I'm sure they will answer any questions you have.
