Now I know you've got your Bura, and I know you've got your Sanu...but I have been seeing the work of a Kami whose stuff is very unusual in that it doesn't have a single imperfection...of course I'm talking about Durba.

Now, HI items are by nature handmade, and by nature sometimes have slight imperfections due to the process of classical shaping and forging with old world tools...except for Durba...his stuff is so clean, so perfect, it looks like it was made by a U.S. mastersmith with advanced equipment and extreme attention to faultlessnss. Durba's Janawar Katne has one of the most perfect blades I've even seen, antiques included. Every line, every curve is perfectly straight. No bumps, scratches, rolls, not a single flaw. From what I've seen, all of his pieces are like this.

Anybody with a Durba piece please respond with what you think of his work.

Matt, Jim Clifton has spoken well of Durba, so much so that I will have to give serious consideration to purchasing one of his khukuris...

Now a followup question: Which style of khukuri does Durba do best, at present?

Koz,
Durba has me stumped!I am unable to put him in just one nitche,,some Kamis are known for, huge K's, some for fast K's etc.I have a "few" of his blades & he covers them "ALL"
heavy & light!One of my fav.is his BAS,(it's my truck carry K)weight is just right for this K,near the tip!I don't have a Durba K I
am unhappy with!If you need more info.on his K's please ask & I will try to answer.

I have been too busy to give proper recognition to Jim Clifton's intense research projects. He is now officially HI Head of Research. All please take note.

And, Jim, I'll soon be out digging through the khukuri stack for another Durba khukuri for you which I should be able to find and ship today.

Harry, if you want one to do a little research of your own let me know.

I have got to agree that Durba's work is phenomenal. I also favor his BAS above all else. From the remarkably acute tip of the blade to the perfectly rounded, polished end of the peened tang there is not ONE flaw. Everything fits seemlessly. The weight distribution is perfect as is the hardening, and, as fellow Durba fans have pointed out, every line is so staight it looks as if done by machine. I own a pitiful 4 khkuris but his is my favorite for execution, and my other three are from Bura!

I think that I have five or six of durba's knives now. I love every one of them. I would recomend his AKs... the grooves look like they have been cut with a cnc machine, rather than forged in.

Durba is the one that did the Janwar Katne that hangs on my wall. I think that it is an incredible masterpiece.

Hmmm,

Think I'll take a chance on an 18 inch Ang Khola with wooden handle by Durba and see how this compares...

Thanks Uncle Bill,

For the record, I will be getting this khukuri for research, something HI's Mad Scientist ...ulp...Head of Research, Jim Clifton will appreciate.

Koz,
"Sigh"! To you I'm a Mad Scient., Tom
wants to call me Saint Jim! I think I may be
closer to Tom's discription! ME, I just like
to do research(NO, it's NOT that HIKV CRAP) on K's, & why people buy them!
Saint, does have a nice ring to it,Vince knows me better than you all, wonder what he would call me? Oh by the way have two K's in the air!
jim

Jim,

You have this "thing" for khukuris, especially Durba's works and are a pretty decent guy so I would think that in this instance "Mad Scientist" and "Saint Jim" are not mutually exclusive...

What would I call Jimmy? Gee, THAT'S a loaded one! Not really printable, guys.

Altho "Our blessed Saint James of Miami Lakes" does have a certain ring about it!

Even if it is the ring of insanity, it's still a ring right? I do have to say that the "Mad Scientist" thing does kinda fit too!

Oh, well at least Uncle bestowed an Official Title on him! I'm sure we can come some "un-official" titles too!

jim

Uncle Bill, that must have been because Jim picked up about 3 dozen over the last 6 months for research
