Those are great old guns. My brother in law was able to negotiate with a fella one night around a campfire...and picked up a Security Six for $75 and a case of beer.
I keep telling him I'll give him $100 for it...He knows better. He is taking that thing to the grave.
You did the right thing here too. Just a good cleaning and oiling. Don't reblue it and cover up all of that character.
You tell him I will give him $150 and a case of beer for the security six!
My wife's grandma on her mom's side has a nice one with MOP handles that she carried as her duty weapon for years and years. She added the fancy grips after she retired (they would not let her customize it flashy while she worked as a security guard). She also worked security in area 51, and has some boring stories about that place. Couple times a day, her job was to round up everyone after a head count, and lock the doors for a while. Then let everyone back out after a predetermined time.
Her husband did top secret work there, that he still, after all these years cannot talk about. For a long time the family thought he was a truck driver. He would get in a Big Rig and drive it to the military airport and jump in a fighter plane and fly to work. Then every day he would come home, and pretend he had a boring day driving the truck. After he got Grandma the security job there, he was obviously able to tell her he worked there, but still not able to say what he worked on.
The coolest thing, was that he has photo's with tons and tons of different military planes, getting in and out. NO one has any markings on their flight suits at all.
He is still not allowed to say what he was working on (though we are pretty sure).
Wish my wife was getting that MOP handled security six, but that is going to the only son in the family. My wife was promised a sweet little chipmunk pump action .22 rifle that is a real hoot to shoot.
