Oink!

Just received my first Busse - a FBM LE, no less (# 83, to be specific)

Even though I expected a big knife, the word substantial is an understatement of the year. It's huge! Enormous! I'm stupefied, dumbfounded, speechless! I'm holding it in my hand, grinning stupidly (I gather this is the usual response). It badly makes me want to chop something to pieces. No, really! It'll be hard keeping it pristine until my BATAC LE arrives, for the together photo shoot. Well, I can always use some PS magic on the blade.

This one is going to be a user for sure

Pics will follow as soon as I arrange some proper ligtning.

Now I need some big, heavy pants for this bad dame...

After I get the BATAC LE, I'm done. Really. Well, maybe just the Anniversary SH. Or perhaps if some good soul offers to sell me the MOASH. Or both. Oh, crap, I'm screwed, aren't I? :foot:

Cheers, Rok

P.S.
On a side note, does anyone know what angle the cutting edge of the FBM LE is ground to? Will 40 degrees on the Sharpmaker do the trick? I know I can try it with the felt-tip trick, but would still appreciate to know in advance. Thanks.

LOL! Yeah, same response I had when I got mine. You will LOVE using that LE and the BATACLE is the perfect match for it. Congrats

Congrats and welcome to the Busse forum. I'm sure you'll find that you spend a lot of your free time here ;)

Rok, congrats on your first Busse. You will be hooked! But you we need some pics;)

Hi Rok, congratulations on your acquisition! I don't think the sharpmaker's two settings are going to work for your FBMLE; if I had to guess I would say the BM (well, the CGFBMs at least) are more like 30-40 degrees PER SIDE, meaning that unless you got a special sharpmaker with an 80 degree setting then you'll need to try something else.

Congrats! :D Condolences to your wallet ;)

I sharpen all my INFI the same way: a regular chef's steel and "stropping" on my own skin  Unconventional maybe, but they always come out extremely sharp

Do you put stropping compound on your skin?
Skin can be leather, but ususally we wait until it is no longer attached;)

No stropping compound, just the skin. I guess it's more about realigning the edge than actual stropping. I just work the edge till it feels smooth (same as when checking for burrs), and then it can usually shave with ease.

The FBMLE is nothing like that. I would guess mine is 35 degrees inclusive
