I want to make a new platent for my Grizzly grinder - like the one Allen Blades has in his video. Now for the question - Does anybody know where I can get a piece of 5160 (preferably precision ground) 2" x 12", 1/4" thick?

I've tried Admiral and Principal, but I can't seem to get anybody to e-mail a quote back.

Why don't you just go with O-1? You can get it alot easyer from any knife supply houses or a local steel supplier. This is what I use on my Kalamzoo.

I just had Rob Simonich harden a piece of 0-1 for me to use as a platen and my grinding and plunge improved immediately. I had been using a piece of tempered glass and it literally shattered from what I presume was too much heat generated. The steel platen is precision ground and is a pleasure to use.
