Been making knives 13 years and have only once had to go get stiches untill today. I wasn't even working on knives. I had taken a couple knives to show a person and after I was done I was stashing them in my pickup so they wouldn't be seen while I was getting some supplies. Guess I had't gotten the knife all the way into the sheath while doing the stashing. That knife fell out of the sheath onto the front seat and my reaction was to grab it. Well it bit me. It landed butt first and point up. My guess is I received 3/4" of point in the palm of my right hand in a blink of an eye. I've been working like a madman getting ready for Blade. I know now I won't be doing any forging for a few weeks. I just hope I can get the other stuff done that I've been working on. Fortunatly nothing major was cut. Hand feels pretty good to my surprize. Just hope the knife isn't considered used now.

I'd jack the price up a bit and call it "Specially Tested"!:D

Should feel just marvy tomorrow....NOT! :( Good luck with it Ray. Glad it didn't cut the nerves in the center of the hand.

Take some ibuprofen (Advil) before you go to bed! You'll thank me in the morning.

I haven't been doing this very long yet, and haven't really hurt myself aside from the "ordinary" nicks and burns. I'll stash this away as a reminder to double check the status of any knife being packed away.

Sorry to hear you got poked, but glad to hear that there wasn't any major damage.

Tough break Raymond. Whenever I nick myself my buddy always tells me something like-

"Just a well made knife doin it's job. Sorta like a dog barkin in the back yard. It's an indescriminate sub-conscious cutting machine. Well trained, natural born cutter. I'm surprised it didn't try a second cut. It's obviously well disciplined too. It's just itchin to get out in the jungle...."

Jumping out of helicopters in the Core must have done something to him.

Mac, No pictures. Its all bandage up. Just a simple puncture wound 1" wide and about 3/4" deep. Thats were the blood stopped on the blade. I didn't bother calling CSI. I just hope I can get some work done in another day or two. I just wish it was the left hand and not the right.

pack it tight with guaze and antibiotic and wrap it with tape... then all you have to do to forge is grit yer teeth:D

You need to learn to forge left-handed Big Boy. That way, I won't be the only "lefty" around.

Robert

Hey Big Boy, Once I manage to grow a tail I'll do that. My right hand has swollen up alot since yesterday. Trying to do anything today looks pretty impossible. I've got to do something pretty soon and I'm not to sure how well I can do that left handed.

Gosh darn it Ray, thats just bad luck. Seems like these things always happen when you need every possible minute to wrap things up. I've never had stitches anywhere but in my head and well, where the sun won't shine. I couldn't soak my head, even though many people have told me to in the past, but I did soak the other end. A mild solution of epsom salts and warm water would help releave the swelling, but you best check with your doc. first.

Take care,

Bill

Bill, With all the stitches I'd had soaking is a no no. Now soaking the head is a different story. I think the tolet will work for that.

Ray having a bandage on your hand is a major "babe magnet" Did you see all those girls at my table at the Oregon Show? Nice going man.

Hey Ray, sorry to hear about the battle wounds! The only thing worse then the throbbing is the sitting around being bored. When my lumbar spine decides to twist up into a pretzel I find out how bad daytime TV is even with a sat dish.

I predict that in less the a week you will be back in the saddle doing something, maybe not pounding.

I draw more blood from cuts from my knives taking them out and putting them away at shows and showing friends. Through the years I think I'm up to just short of 100 stitches accumulated. Only a few can be attributed to blades. Bruce is right about the Babe magnate; he is accross the aisle at OKCA and there was a constant wall of women in front of his table...Heal well...Ed

Bruce, Ed, Your both so full of crap about all the babes at the show. period. The only Babe I saw was the young lady watching my table while I was doing the forging demo unless more came in while I was out entertaining the crowd. Guess I spent about 4 hours today working on a knife that I had real close to finished before I stabbed myself. The doctor told me mainly to keep it clean by wearing a glove and not to over due. I've been working on another S guard. If you want a laugh you should watch me try and swing a hammer left handed. I've just been going easy. Thing that bother's me the most is from the tetnous shot.

At least we know you have figured out how to sharpen those pointy things!
Take care of yourself, Ray.

I don't know Ray, between fires and stabbings, someone might be trying to tell you something about this profession. Before you fly to Atlanta, you might think parachute. :D :D

Take Care,

Bill

dang Ray no pictures??
I don't know about you  :D :D
heal well
and musseling up that left arm will keep you from walking to the right all the time;) :D good luck at blade, I wish I could be going again..:(
