A New Spyderco Hawkbill: What You Would Want?

Needless to say that Spyderco's Hawkbill blades have garnered more attention in the past 5 months than I've seen them attain in the past two to three years collectively. Now my predilection for Spyderco's Hawkbill blades goes back to the early 2000 decade and by 2005 I was hopelessly hooked ( especially when I got my first Spyderhawk). But like many of you I would like to see some changes and advancements in the great line up of Hawkbill folders that Spyderco has blessed us with. For a long time I've so much wanted to see a Spyderhawk model with G-10 scales. I've also wanted to see a Harpy with either G-10 or Carbon Fiber scales too.

Now the currently extinct model i.e. the SUPERHAWK I would actually like to see it return just as it was but to be available in Spyderedge this time around. OH and one more thing I truly do want to see change in the Hawkbill landscape and that would be to see a serious fixed blade Hawkbill of some sort in the main line up.

But not all of us have the same desires so I would like to pick your brains to see what you all would like to see come down the pipeline in the Spyderco Hawkbill sector?

I'd want it to be big. PM2 or larger size and with a combo blade in tool steel.

Prefer the handle to not be FRN.

Camo Zome Spyderhawk in LC200N

Maybe similar to the old digital camo like the one I have on one of my C-36 Military models? Yes as regal and big as the Spyderhawk model is I do believe it deserves a serious handle made with serious materials. G-10 camo would be a big step in the right direction. Good suggestions thus far guys!!

Good suggestions JD! I have been drooling over the Spyderhawk for a long time. Can't wait for the upcoming Sprint! A G-10 or CF version would be great! Maybe with the Endura 4 ergos? A Harpy in either material would be great too, I love em both.

I'd also agree that a fixed blade hawkbill should exist! That would be amazing! Perhaps Spyderhawk size? Or you mentioned a return of the Superhawk. Maybe a fixed version of that? Fixed, folding, plain or serrated edge, a return of that would take my money! Happily! :)

Well a fixed blade Hawkbill makes perfect sense when you think about how you use the Hawkbill folders. It's mostly "pull cutting" that you do with them and just think of the extra leverage you can get with a fixed blade with a rigid handle?

Spyderco's Hawkbills I believe would really get a shot in the arm and their popularity would rise if made with better materials. Lawn & Garden people would far prefer G-10 over FRN I'm sure of it.

The HARPY would be a little beast with a G-10 or CF handle. They already have the Salt Series with FRN handles so why wouldn't they do some of the models with high end materials?

I really like the Super Hawk. I think the grip locks to your hand very well. However it is a very heavy full liner grip. With grabby snaggy edges. Since the Super Hawk is a hawkbill on a super Leaf frame, it should be just as easy to put a hawk bill on a paramilitary 2 frame.

^^^ Now I'm jealous...and hungry! I really like the peel ply CF. Looks good, and it's also quite grippy.

I'd love to see another run of Dodos. Not the most useful design, but a funky favorite blade to be sure. Maybe a serrated blade and FRN scales? Might not set the world on fire, but id buy one.

The Dodo is really a "Reverse S" blade style to be technical about it. But YES I've said on several threads lately that I most definitely want to see a new run of the Dodo model>> but under two conditions>> I want them to use something other than S30V blade steel and I want to see them make the Spyderedged version available again as well.

The Reverse S blades do have a lot of the attributes of the conventional Hawkbill design but they are a bit of different creature and both of them for sure have their place in the cutlery tool chest.

Totally correct on Reverse S. A Dodo with a true hawkbill cluld be an option. I love the look of the blade, but it could be a luttle more function.

The knife it's is incredibly ergonomic .

OH I couldn't agree with you more that the Dodo model is one of Spyderco's most ergonomic designs ever. I put it up there with both the C-60 Ayoob and the TEMPERANCE 1 fixed blade model. The handle on the Dodo truly fits me like it was custom made for my hand.

I do see Spyderco making more Reverse S blades and Hawkbills both with even more ergonomic handles. I see both designs vastly improving over time.

After comparing notes and looking at a lot of the photos that my good Spyder-Brother PEACENT showed me I'm becoming more and more convinced that it may be high time that Spyderco consider doing one of their bigger Hawkbills ( Like the Spyderhawk) in combo edge. PEACENT showed me a combo edged Hawkbill made by a competitor of Spyderco's and it really caught my eye.

What do you all think of that idea? And what else could you all think of that might enhance the good pull cutting features of a good Hawkbill blade?

I would just like a 3" hawkbill in G-10. Heck, I'd take titanium framelock. Mostly I just don't like the scales and back locks on the current models.

I'll second that motion>> because we are way overdue for a Spyderco Hawkbill made with premium materials. It is time for a serious, high end Hawkbill. Again I will second your motion but I also want a Spyderhawk with a G-10 handle.

I want a large SE or CE fixed blade salt hawk. 4.25" Aquahawk!!!!

For a Hawkbill to do justice to a combo edged blade I think you might have the perfect size for that to work right. I would love a 4.25" "AquaHawk" myself but I would be tempted to see how LC200N would do on a project like that.

A fixed blade Hawkbill is way overdue in the Spyderco line up and I'm believing that a combo edge might work well with that scenario. But you can't even go wrong with a full Spyderedged Hawkbill either which is always my first choice. But it is going to be interesting to see how a Combo Edge would work on a bigger Hawkbill blade. I am interested to find out.
