A new true EDC

I believe the cutting board makers call that an end grain board, as opposed to edge grain, which would be long strips glued side by side. Supposedly end grain boards are somewhat self healing, with the blade edge pushing between the wood fibers. YMMV. That is a pretty larch board.

You can't go wrong with a Case Copperhead if you like that size. It is probably my favorite pattern in that size range.

I did a "challenge" a few years back with a friend on the forum here and just carried a Case Small Texas Jack, Amber Bone CV, as my only pocket knife (well, along with a Victorinox Alox Cadet but that was non-negotiable - that is a true EDC-for-life knife).

At first it felt a little odd not having a rotation but after a while it just seemed normal and right to have "my pocket knife" (singular) on me. I permanently bonded with that knife and it is still one of my go-to knives and is always on my desk.

It was originally a 3-month challenge, but when the 3 months was up, I felt no particular need to change it up and it ended up being about 6 months before I carried something different.

There is something to be said for finding a pocket knife that becomes your true friend and companion. The family backstory makes it even better.

Fun to read about your journey with your new knife.

When I originally read the title I was going to post laughing emoji with tears coming out of eyes for humor but when I read your post I took it back. 😄 Good for you! 👍🏻

The blade is developing a nice natural patina. Slicing sandwiches, steak and an avocado here and there. Still have not missed a day carrying it, sometimes alone, sometimes not. The Pen blade is still shiny as it doesn't get used as much.

The Craftsman scout pattern knife is fun to use too. So many good ones in the drawer it's a dilemma in the morning.
