A new way of doing one off engravings?

So I was reading the news this morning about 3D printers and it mentioned something interesting. Apparently this particular model is capable of engraving and cutting leather, wood, corian, most likely kirinite, rubber (I think res-C) etc...:

Since it doesn't require a stamp to do the engraving it may be a nice way of making a one off engraving like someone wanting their crest, team insignia (police, army, scouts etc...) or coat of arms on their sheaths/handle/ricasso (they can do titanium, not sure about steel).

Although it did not mention it specifically I don't think kydex would be a stretch to do either...

What do you think everyone?

Those laser engravers won't engrave steel. You can paint on a coating that burns a black mark when the laser hits it. They work fine for handles and leather. We regularly discuss them here ... Had a thread last week on laser engravers.

Ah right sorry about that, I usually make leather sheaths so I lurk there most of the time. I'll go and do my homework on the laser engravers. Thank you for telling me about them :)

Glowforge is a small CNC laser, not a 3D printer. Also it is still in pre-order phase so we are relying on the marketing to get a sense of it's capabilities.

Yeah its not a 3D printer, for some reason they mentioned it in the same article but it was interesting so it caught my eye.
