I can pick something worth about $90 in a trade that I did. I've got plenty of Spyderco's, so I'm looking for something different. I'm thinking about a nice gents folder. Something like an Al Mar Hawk. The one in Briar Wood or Jigged bone look nice..a bit more then $90 ($100-$105) but I can probably add a little cash. Looks a lot like my Spyderco C27 Jess Horn which I don't dare to carry...
Does anyone know if these are made by G Sakai or Moki?
Anyway, general requirements are <3", lockable, pointy blade, classy look, no plastic parts.
Any others in this category?
Thanks,
Ted

I just picked up a Moki that is gorgeous. My first Moki was my Al Mar SERE 2000 but this new one is labeled as a Moki. It is superb in its fit and finish, a lockback. Impressive as all get-out.

cognitivefun - interesting, you mean you picked up a Al Mar Hawk that was made my Moki? where does it show on the knife? is it stamped?

Thanks,
Ted

The Kershaw Nakamura always looked particularily spiffy to me. Don't have one yet myself.

Sorry, I posted confusingly. My SERE is stamped and made by Moki is all I meant to say. My new knife is a "pure" Moki. Both knives have a fit and finish and a precision that is of the highest caliber.

Just looked at some pics, and it's not really my thing. Thanks

Also not what I'm looking for. Thanks

Amazing sometimes, how one can instantly like or dislike the looks of a knife.
Anyway, just figured out that current Al Mar's are made my Moki. Previously they were done by G Sakai. The Al Mar Hawk still looks promising.

Anyone know an on-line retailer that has a large selection of original Moki knives? ( not hamonoichiba or ohyasuya/TheEdge)

It might push you to a little over $100, but I just got a Benchmade Osborne 940 and it sgreat. Slim, light 3.4 inch blade, and pointy. Very easy to open and rock solid with no blade play. I carry mine every day.

I have been browsing Driverrecruiter but haven't purchased from them.

My new Moki is a great gent's knife. I can't say enough good things about it.

What Moki did you get? :)

It's Sandalwood with an abalone and pearl inlay. I don't know the model. It's a lockback, about 4".

The Spyderco Kiwi is a very nice little knife with jigged bone scales and VG-10. (a little over 90 bucks)Another knife you don't hear much about on these forums but would make a great gentlemans knife is the browning presention series knife. AUS-8, 2.13" blade-scales of stag, quince, or MOP. (Priced very reasonably @ $35-65 depending on handle material.)

Last month I bought a knife that meets your specs, almost perfectly. Price, size, lock, natural handles, and very beautiful (at least I think so). Made in Germany, the quality can best be described as "perfect":

You should browse the rest of AG's website too. I'm sure he has a good selection of knives that will interest you.

I'm an admirer of the Al-Mar products with natural materials, but I don't own one yet.

You might like something from Queen Cutlery:

I'm especially fond of their Doctor's Knives.

Happy Shopping,

The Al Mar Hawks are so nice, hard to go wrong with one of those. I've also got a Queen cocobolo doctor's knife, very well put together. If any of the several Queen styles catch your eye you should definitely give them a look, many handle materials to choose from and a steal for the price with D2 blades.

AG Russell also had the Ka-Bar/Dozier folding hunter on sale. 3" D2 blade and aluminum handles. I've got one on the way.

Here's something different. How 'The Imp" made by Nemisis Knives. I dont own one but they do look pretty. At TKN they are $99 US. Check out True North Knives for the rest of the specs: http://truenorthknives.com/tnk_1mainframe.htm

I do own an Al Mar Hawk and I love it. Its a great knife and you cant go wrong if you get one. Mine is in Black Lip Pearl
