A nice single backspring 2 blade GEC?

We’d be remiss if we didn’t put the 26 on the list (near impossible to find these days). Here’s a small sampling of these robust little knives.
That's why they're so hard to find, lol. A circle of goodness.

I hear the 35 Churchill is a pretty nice knife.

Man those are nice.

Trying to decide between these three Churchills

Maroon linen micarta
Yellow banana bone
Hummingbird acrylic
The examples I have of those three have no blade rub. I like nail nicks and a satin finish, so micarta is my pick of the litter. The hummingbird would be my pick of the Northfields. My banana sheepfoot is the only blade, of the dozen, that is a bit lazy. It is a factory second along with the rose and ebony.

Micarta is bulletproof and looks good.
Bone is a classic material and yellow is a classic color
Acrylic can be colorful

What are your priorities?

Good call on the Willamette Whittler. If the OP likes wharncliffes, the Willamette is pretty awesome.

I DO. I love 'em. :)

I don't really have priorities. Just put it in my pocket. Not a fan of yellow so probably won't go that route. Leaning towards the Acrylic or the Micarta. Considering the cougar clawed bone one but I don't know how thick it is. I don't like how stag bulges out quite far.

The Cougar Clawed isn't thick at all, pretty much even with the bolsters all the way through.

Smatchet! Churchhill!

Actually, I don't have a 35. Just a bit long for my taste for the size of the main blade.

The 33 was a great pattern. Still is, but until they make another run, you can consider it to be past tense unless you're lucky and/or pay through the nose for one. I kinda wish I'd kept my buffalo horn 33 with clip and coping. Very slim and small, yet fantastically useful. Definitely high on the list of patterns we all want GEC to revisit (for me, the 33 and 92 are at the very top).

I'll second (or third, or however many votes it has, +1) the #13 Clerk. The main wharncliffe is very nicely sized for the frame; I don't have a Whip, but it seems like the Clerk sacrifices little or no blade length to add the pen. The main reason I think the Clerk is a fantastic knife to have is that most of us also carry some modern folder (and/or possibly a fixed blade), and chances are that the "other" knife has a curved blade. So even if you're not the biggest fan of wharncliffes or other straight blades, you're not sacrificing the general utility of a curved blade to add an extremely pointy straight blade to your EDC arsenal. And of course the pen is useful too.

I had a #61 half congress in stag. This particular one had very slim handles and made a very slim knife. However, the sheepsfoot was rather short, and it just bugged me. Still, a great knife for most, or all, the same reasons the #13 Clerk is a great choice.

This is actually an argument in favor of the Churchill. You only need the one knife as you've got both a curved edge and a straight edge in a thin package at the small end of medium. It disappears into your pocket and still gives you a whole lot of cutting power. That thin sheepsfoot is amazing at breaking down boxes. I don't even consider carrying another knife unless I'm hiking in the woods and then I have to figure out which fixed blade gets to go along ... or if I'm doing yard work, where I add two big beaters for abusive tasks like digging and pruning.

If you're really on the fence between micarta and acrylic, I'd say micarta, it's more durable and I like the feel better. YMMV

There's also the #09 if you want a really small pen knife and can find one. I don't have a #35 but between micarta and acrylic for a carry knife I'd suggest the micarta. Acrylic and be a little too smooth and slippery for my tastes. I just think micarta would feel better and acrylic looks better as collector pieces. That said, I do have acrylic #33 and #68 users.

My favorite single spring/ multi bladed GECs are the #79 Workhorse and #35 Churchill.

While I prefer the blades a bit more on the Churchill (I favor clip over spear, and really prefer the robust sheepfoot) I like the Workhorse more overall - aesthetically and in hand. They are very close though, and while 79's don't show up often, there are plenty of 35s available.

Thank you so much for all of your replies and pics. I love 'em. I ended up buying a #35 Churchill in Maroon Micarta. Should be here in a few days. I'll report back with pics. :)

Excellent choice. I know it's not as if you haven't seen plenty of pics but here's some more to hold you over while you wait. I have two Maroon Micarta Churchills but one of them is out for customization. They are both dark in color like this one, which I like.

Keep the pics coming. The #35 is a beautiful pattern. If I could have found one in Gabon ebony I would have bought it instead. I should have never sold my calf roper slim in ebony.

Anxious to see how you like it. The churchill has become one of my most carried knives. I have stag, yellow rose, cougar claw and ebony. Still trying to tell myself I don't need the micarta but every time i see one I am tempted.
