A Night In The Snow

Thanks Rick,

Those slits to access belt items is a good idea.

I've never found any Labrador tea (can't remember the binomial - Ledum groenladica or something) around here . The only place I can remember seeing it in person was in Algonquin. And I"ve never been aware of Spicebush (Lindera benzoin) around here either, although I might just have missed it.

Doc

Pretty darn close :D - Ledum groenlandicum.

Well.... I'm in the Carolinian Zone, here... so we get all kinds of species found nowhere else in Canada..... We even have cacti! (prickly pear) Maybe you'll have to come down here for a walk in the woods, sometime.

All this diversity is great for teaching.... lucky kids.

Hey Rick,

looks like you had a good time, I was going to send Eric an E-mail to see how he was doing, haven't talked in a while.
Does he still get out with the scout troop alot?

Rick - I think it's just great that you gave up some of your time to teach outdoor skills to others. Looked like a great time and I'm sure you got as much out of the experience as those with you.

For sure... I learned alot and those kids just took it all in... The questions they asked had me on my toes... Their mnds were not clouded with textbook garbage.

There's school and then there's the school of hard knocks. Both are important, but the lessons learned from hard knocks stay with you longer. Amen on the textbook garbage.

We, too, are in the furthest northern edge of the Carolinian zone, although I've never seen Prickly Pear (Opuntia humifusa) here. A walk in the woods sounds like a great idea, although I'll have to wait until I get some more trustworthy wheels.

Your the man. I can imagine those kids awakeneing in the morning and learning that you spent the night in a snow cave. Im impressed.

Thanks Dip.....
They kept refering to me as the "snow man"........ lol. I learned alot that night.... my next one will be that much better!

good thing you did it while you could, kinda a short window of snow.
