A non Busse Question (though I do want Busse Grips :D) Need a little advice.

OH MAN!! You guys are killin me with the pictures!! :D I greatly appreciate all the info and links given. I've spent a huge chunk of my day off doing research today from all the info given! It's fun finding something new to learn about! I also went to a local gun store and saw a nice Colt 1911 there that's used and in great shape. I may just trade for one of the other 2 and spring for one like it in a couple months and have it customized while I use the hell outta the other.

There's a killer place on one of the reservations about 30-40 minutes away from me where you shoot into a hillside. A couple of us are going out there in a couple days and I'll get to shoot all three again....so that'll probably help my choice some more.

I'm almost tempted to trade him a rare Busse or 2 in addition to the engine and end up with all three! :D That's my hoggish instinct kicking in ;) the same instinct that screams not to!

John Moses Browning knew what he was doing when he designed this gun and the magazine. The dimple in the magazine is definitely a big plus, as he intended. The internal safeties on the Kimber and Colt can effect trigger pull and reliability. Since the Colt is a series 80 I say skip it (if you are intent on a Colt get a series 70; they are great guns and customize well too).

The Springfield is the closest to Browning's design and the lock in the mainspring housing is easily removed, much easier than the Colt or Kimbers can be modified. I'd go with it in this case.

Z51, the Wilson CQB is a wonderful gun. I love mine, but I also love my Baer, Ed Brown, and SA Pro too. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

I definitely think there is something about Busses and 1911. Does anyone know if Jerry's middle name starts with 'M':D by any chance?

Man.....

I was at the gun shop today and found a great deal on a used "unfired" full size CQB.

It's mine.

God bless the person that invented layaway.

I can't wait to pick it up.

I'm sure you'll love it. Is it OD and black? If so, it give you an excuse to get your favorite Busse in matching colors:D

XMP, it's grey/black with diamondwood grips.

It should be easy to find a Busse match.

I can go with one of my black/black HH's (the handles look grey to me).

Otherwise I will have to buy an urban grey/black paper combo in the future.

(My apologies pbubsy for stealing your thread temporarily).

No worries ;) I've gotten all the info and help I need :D. I might just end up with the Kimber Custom and a Service Model Les Baer. The Kimber with about 1000 rounds put through it and the Baer with 5000.

I got mine before grey/black was an option, but I really love that combo and your right grey/black paper on a Busse would look wonderful. I wish the Busse snakeskin was available in 1911 grips so I could outfit my badger to match my CQB.

Pbubsy,
I just realized you're in CA too. One thing you should consider since it looks like you have access to a guys collection. The Roster of handguns certified for sale in CA which can be viewed at http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ . If a handgun, C&R(fifty years or older)handguns exludeded, isn't on the list the only way to get one is via private party transfer from another California resident. So if he has a handgun you're interested in that's not on the list, you might want to grab that one.

Jerry did make some Snakeskin 1911 grips. I just put a set on the CQB I picked up yesterday. I'd suggest a post in WTB. You might get lucky. :)

Wow Drew......

Those would make a Taurus 1911 look good.

Did Jerry make any other colors?

And how about with a magwell?

Mine has a speed chute on it.

I can't remember if he offered ones cut for a magwell. Both of mine aren't. There were canvas versions in both tan and black. Mine are tan:

My snakeskins are darker than Drew's:

I seem to remember SS, Black, Tan, possibly green linen and G-10 (grey/tan and the green/tan on the Baer).

There are a few pics floating around on BF.
