Thanks! It’s unfortunate that more aren’t using S60v (formerly known as CPM-440v). I think it’s a good steel, and certainly has its purposes. There is current, new steel available, but I don’t see it used much.

OK, I'll bite: What Tomfoolery are you doing to grind as if on a 48" wheel? Or maybe it's voodoo? Clue me in.I'm playing with new geometries, and this pair is the first from me to have a very shallow hollow grind, approximately the same hollow as would be created by grinding on a four foot diameter wheel.

Nathan Carothers made a run of platens that are cut to the radius of a bunch of different diameter wheels - 48" being the one I elected to use here, but I've actually got a couple that are bigger still. MUCH bigger. Stay tuned...
