A pair of titanium light choppers

Here's a little video of the straight blade chopping up some bamboo. I cut up some cans and bottles as well, and batoned through some lumber and such, but ended up with 30 minutes of choppin' fun footage, so I reduced it down to just the bamboo which is much harder to cut.

A narrowing point like this one is a good idea for a fighting weapon, but not my usual design type. With this alloy a flared tip does swipe through vegetation more casually. The alloy's resistance to torsion and warpage, plus the light weight, can give the wielder the power of a huge, flared blade, but with the quickness and effortless control of a small thin one. This particular blade weighs only 11.4 oz, it's like a feather.

Enjoy! :D

that's some fine cuttin, buddy

Love this shit.

I'm deafeningly unsurprised, M.Gregory. :D

Here's the last round of photos for this blade, as-used from the video plus it's finished sheath (which is not floppy). This type of sheath is getting sidelined in favor of a scabbard with a similar kevlar-stitched paneling of leather, but with a metal superstructure a'la Phill Hartsfield.

Thanks for looking, everyone. Keep a look out for the next big advancement of these forged beta ti blades over the winter: full take-down swords.

Are these the ones that are already spoken for?

Didn't know Ti could cut? Why wouldn't it? 🙄

wow, this is interesting, didn't know ti could cut.

It's a matter of finding the right sort of titanium alloy, and then processing it to eke out good blade qualities, be that through HT and forging, blade shape, or perhaps a carbidized edge. The vast majority of ti alloys are formulated to be used as structural pieces and parts rather than tools, and so are designed to be tough but pretty soft. But the "beta" class of the alloys are highly heat-treatable and have a lot of unexplored potential. I think they make really great swords and large blades (I would consider the one in the video a small blade).

Are these the ones that are already spoken for?

Yes, but one of the gentlemen requested a mad demo video. How could I resist? :D
