The first one is of My dads design, he drew it up while we were on a cross country trip and everyone agreed that it was a good design, I personaly like it a lot. the second one is a bit smaller and offers a little more control. Both have custom molded kydex sheaths with all screw construction. they also have two SS pins each and offer superb grip. The first one has a high polish while the second one has a 1500 grit hand rubbed finish. They both have bloodwood handles.

I unfortunately need to buy more supplies and tools to make more knives, and so I am dipping below minimum wage to sell these. $45 each including shipping and paypal.
Patience isn't one of my better traits ;) .

Thanks for looking everone, J S. Gravelle.

I rarely feel like I should pay more, I'm a skinflint who loves a bargain.. but this time.. it stings my conscience a little you aren't pricing your blades at their true market value.

The #1 skinner (and you might call it that, and *Please* make some more before Christmas) .. with various handle treatments would work for everything from schmearing peanut butter, to skinning out flopsy, mopsy, treerats and bambi.. to just displaying for an example of fine design and handcraftsmanship.

No, I'm not piling on flattery, I really think the simplicity, and balance between size and function, make it a classic keeper. I'd love to see some variations displayed together, it'd be a nice art poster.. (do a poster and I'll buy one or several, depending on price, for prezzies!)

Dad's got a knack for this. I don't know if he's still around even, or willing to design more knives... but if so I'd like very much to see a drawing for an 8-9 inch drop point slicer/camp knife.. guardless and sturdy and as elegantly simple as the skinner. the Bay de Noc camp knife, on closeout at DRT, is a nice try but no cigar. it's close.. but Dad might see the spots it's improveable. I don't flatter folks that havn't earned it.. i'm a lot more likely to gripe at sloppy work than I am to praise competence, I expect competence and forget to mention it.

TALENT on the other hand, I make a point of honoring, because it must be supported by firmly held personal standards of disciplined work habits, business ethics, utility, and esthetics.

I don't know if you have any idea what i'd pay, given a good salesman and (for me unusual) the available funds.. but it's a Lot More Than You Asked. You can make the identical style with ebony to ivory scales, and the mirror bright polish all the way to 'forge marks and hammer blows showing'.. and someone will like every single combo you can come up with except maybe glow in the dark.. and possibly SOMEBODY would even like that one.

If you just accidently got lucky, I'm sorry as hell for you. If you can do work like that in several styles, you are going to repeat yourself often, cause a lot of folks WANT THAT THING.. and for what it's worth, the knife deserves a sheath of equal impact.. the kydex is useful, but lacks charm. ;)

I think you're a long way from as good as you'll get, supposing you continue knifemaking. I hope you do some kitchen knives. I hope you work a LOT and don't dither about enjoying life and such trifles.. and no shinola, if Dad is willing and able to do some more designs, PUT HIM TO WORK. Artists are where you find them.

are you still on the computer ? didn't you get the drift.. ?

consider the simple parer. everybody needs one. everybody, darn near.. HAS one. . and there's not a knife knut worth his bragging rights that wouldn't buy an elegant hand made parer just to have it in the kitchen. BLUIDY good design on that #1. I've gone on first dates I didn't fling compliments this much, what ELSE you got to sell?

The only thing I can say is WOW that is a very generous praise post. Thanks for the praise its very encouraging. Right now I am pricing my knives to move them fast so I can get tools and supplies, once I get a few of the more pricey tools out of the way I will be able to be a little more patient to get the price I want. I am always receiving input and constructive criticism from my father, he has a lot of input into what I make.

I still have a LOT of learning to do and it feals pretty good to get all the great feedback I am getting.

Thanks, J S. Gravelle.

Only on my carbon steel blades like these. All my tool steel and SS blades go to paul Bos.
