A Parting Of The Ways

My father's gallbladder appears to have similar culinary views.

He has elected to make peace with it, as it keeps him from eating things he really shouldn't be eating anyways.

Good luck!

It's a shame things didn't work out. Stay possitive, if just for the stones. They'll thank you when they grow up.

Thanks for all the well wishes, fellas - I was looking forward to reading some responses to my bizarre post. The surgery was successful but became more complicated than the usual laproscopic cholecystectomy. I had a lot of scar tissue from some previous surgery that required some extra cutting, so instead of the usual 4 half-inch pokes I have a 4 inch incision, an inch and a half incision, and the remaining 2 pokes, and I had to spend an extra day in the hospital. The interesting thing is there are no stitches or staples - all the wounds are glued! I'm on the road to recovery and getting my appetite back so I'll soon start learning which foods are going to be OK and which, if any, are going to produce the infamous explosive results that others have reported.

Thanks again - reading your comments is definitely good for the morale! :D

We are all happy that "things" came out alright. Take it easy for awhile.

I know it is too late but perhaps perhaps you should of tried counseling.Maybe group organ therapy.

Great news! Glad it went so well. I had the same surgery a few years ago and got staples.

As to foods, avoid spices and grease at first, then ease into them. I still can't eat very spicy or greasy foods, but that leaves me a lot of menue choices. And I just make my seafood gumbo file' with less red pepper, more file'.

I had mine out in '93 as well. Mine was also an open cholecystectomy. I had no trouble with eating any food afterwards. The only thing I had trouble with, was laughing too hard, as THAT caused great pain for a week or two.

I am happy to hear your are OK. :) My dad almost let his gall bladder kill him. It became very abcessed and he developed a bad infection. Ran a fever of like 105D. Not good for a man in his seventies'. Fortunately he had a good doc and now, five or six years later, he is in excellent health. I will send up some smoke and keep you in my prayers.

You had alot of gall posting a thread like that!

Wait, um, err..... never mind......

I was gonna say, "Can I have your knives if you die?"

Unfortunately, it looks like you made it through......

Heal quickly, I hear protein supplements will help glue up all the innards with connective tissue re-growth. Make sure you ask the medicine man first. I hear that connective tissue is the glue that holds everything in place.

I also have just started a vitamin regimen, with one ingredient that has the beneficial flora acidophilus, and some other one. I can almost throw my rolaids away!!!!!! I was poppin those things like candy, sometimes 2x a night, about 3 tablets at a time and still wake up at times with heartburn. I have not taken any antacid since the 2nd day on this vitamin regimen. I am much happier doing it this way. I think my colon is writing me love letters.

Heal quick and work on upping your post count rate here on BF!
