A Perfect REFLECTION - aggressive folder content

I recently received this piece from Brad Fairall “Ghostmaker”. I don’t buy thumbstud openers much anymore as my cravings are mostly for flippers and autos, but this one really grabbed me and I could not pass it up. This model is called the Reflection. Basically the name was derived from how the knife looks in the closed position with matching detailed work on both sides…resembling a sort of reflection. The knife is really tops all the way around. Great hand satin work throughout with contoured carbon fiber overlays. The framelock features two detents and locks the blade open like a bank vault. It features phosphor bronze washers in which the blade glides open on and stays perfectly centered and in place when closed within the handle with just the right amount of detent. The 6AL-4V titanium handle on this model feels GREAT in hand as everything is radiused on all sides…no sharp edges. The blade is CPM-S30V and has a nice hand rubbed satin finish, maintaining the blade’s nice grind lines.
I like a folder that has a lot going on it and this one clearly does. Lots of nice touches - perfectly machined backspacer that protrudes just slightly as an added touch to aid in grip, dual thumb studs that function perfectly in opening and an integrated lanyard hole. The titanium pocket clip is nice and thick and yet slides onto the pocket without having to manually lift the tip up and on…and yet does not protrude enough to effect the overall grip of the knife. The handle is also tapped and Brad included an extra pocket clip to allow for tip down carry.

Very pleased with this piece! Great work Brad!

Now for some pics. I took some 360 degree angles of the knife closed on both sides and then some with the blade opened.

Very well made. Very cool design. Fairly unknown maker. I like it.

Curious: What is the function of the dual detents?

Very nice! I don't usually like knives with a high-tech appearance, but I'll make an exception for this one.

Thanks for posting.

Wow............... That is a beauty.
Honestly it looks like it would be sort of a hand killer with the notches , but as cool as it looks , who cares ! lol :)

Very , Very nice.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the great write up.. nice pics too! And thanks to all for the interest everyone.
I can answer that question on the dual detent balls for you and Mr. Coop .... When opening the blade there is a drag after the detent ball falls off the blade edge at the lock grind. Generally it is about 7 degrees or so rotationally. So to prevent that drag I came up with a second ball in the right place just above the surface,to cary it off the edge smoothly, but not high enough above surface to interfere with the primary detent ball. Hope that didnt bore anyone :D

Thanks again for the great comments guys...

Brad

Hi Brad,

I'd forgotten about this thread, and I'm glad you brought it back up.

Brilliant idea on the dual detents--along with your super-styling. Now I understand. I really like this.

Welcome! :D

Thanks everyone! Nice to be here again Coop, and I have a Prototype Reflection on my bench thats Double Action Auto,Ti Frame,Damascus Blade, and Damascus overlays.... with some special touches to follow! I'm gonna need a real nice picture of it Coop... :D

Since Steves buisey this week, I will answer that for you. A flipper is a folder that has a tongue that is part of the blade ... when you pull it with your index finger ..it opens the blade. Then when open, it forms a guard .
