So I was thinking this would be a good way to have to have a little fun today...

A pic of yourself...

A question for the next poster...and answer for the one previous has to be WS&S related...
-How you ever hunted and if so, what's something you've wanted to hunt but haven't?

A skill you either consider to be a weakness or strength...

-Survivors mentality. Getting calm instead of excited, looking at the positives, strong faith and commitment to get through.

I'll play

-How you ever hunted =Wild Boar--with a Knife.Very Exciting.

and if so, what's something you've wanted to hunt but haven't?

Lion--I think that would test you like few things could.

A skill you either consider to be a weakness or strength...

Been teaching Martial Arts since I was 12(I'm now 50)--so I have the experience to teach people how to react if attacked. My strength is being a GREAT teacher.

OK I'm in
Here's me I'm the one on the left
PICT0040-1.jpg

I have hunted mostly small game, But I'd love to hunt a boar.

I don;t know if it is a skill so much as an attribute, But I'm tenacious. in some ways it serves me well.. as I like to keep after things untill I get them, in other areas it hurts me because sometimes I just don't know when to quit.

I'm in,

I have hunted most North American Game, only success has been whitetail, squirrel, and other small game. I love turkey hunting, but have not been successful.
I would like to hunt a Kodiak once. To me, there is no more dangerous creature here in North America. IMO. Plus, that big brown pelt would look good thrown over my bed.

My skill- a dynamic mind. I am a thinker, problem solver, and puzzler. That's why I like survivalcraft, its one problem after another. I am tenacious as well, sometimes to a fault.

Great thread!

(I'm notorious for low-quality pictures)

You all forgot to ask something! I guess I'll just answer the OP's question.
I've hunted deer, turkey, squirrel, frog, and pheasant but I'd really like to go on a moose hunt.
My skill is improvisation. I've always been proud of my ability to make things work with what I have lying around. My family frequently compared me to MacGyver when I was a
kid and I take that confidence into any difficult situation. I've never made a radio from a coconut but then again, I haven't tried. :D
Question for the next poster: When you camp, do you use a flint and firesteel, blast match, ferro rod, drill, etc. even though you have a perfectly good lighter in your pocket?

You all forgot to ask something!

Maybe their tenacity makes up for their lack of reading comprehension??
:p:D

Question for the next poster: When you camp, do you use a flint and firesteel, blast match, ferro rod, drill, etc. even though you have a perfectly good lighter in your pocket?

Even when I smoked, I would use alternate fire starting techniques to get a fire started. Most of the time it is ferro rod or bow drill. Very rarely I pull out the old flint and steel kit. One thing for sure is, I always use natural tinder, despite all the other alternatives I carry with me. I figure if I am camping, I may as well take my time and practice skills. I save the old bic, PJCB's, etc for those desperate times..

Next question. Have you ever gotten complacent in the outdoors? Maybe in an area you hiked in many times, so you didn't bother taking a compass or another piece of gear that turned out to be a necessity. How did you over come it?

Hey is that pic of you on Chimney Tops?

Sure I'll play.

To answer the question: Next question. Have you ever gotten complacent in the outdoors? Maybe in an area you hiked in many times, so you didn't bother taking a compass or another piece of gear that turned out to be a necessity. How did you over come it?

Answer: Yes I was hunting in an area that I had hunted ALOT and started down a game trail and forgot to LOOK UP and know where I am at. I went through two thickets and down several hills and looked up and went "HOLY CRAP I dont know where I am at". It was also getting dark which did not help the situation. I did my best to retrace my steps and by the time I found my way out the moon was already up.

-I am a hunter and have hunted darn near everything from updland birds to large game of all walks. I hunt using primative weapons as well as newfangled ones :) As an above hunter mentioned I would want to hunt Lions and Cape Buffalo....always been a dream to go on Safari

-A skill thats a strength is my tracking. I have always been good with it and picked it up from my father when learning to trap which he used to do as a kid for money and I learned as a skill as furs dont bring much money anymore. I have had LOTS of experience tracking (as well as trapping with metal traps and improvised) all kinds of game and helped many a friend recover wounded game. Conversley a skill that I need improvement in is my shelter building techniques. I always make em too darn small or rush the job as I have food and water on my mind normally. I just seem to leave less importance on shelter

For the next poster: Is there an area of survival that you feel you want to try but just havent done? could be anything from spending the night in the woods or just wanting to go out with just a pocket knife. If you havent tried it...why not?

Yes, first Peak. We always go to the second peak, and did so on that trip as well. I can post a pic of that if you wish. Moose

ETA-

Moose is that a "Survival Kilt" or did you find you find a place that caters to those who prefer Skorts in the bush? :D

In the Utilikilt brand, I do have a Survival model. Int he pic, that is an Original, and I have 5 total that I wear. I wear a kilt almost daily, and if my boss would pay me, I'd wear'em at work. Sorry for the hijack, back to our regularly schedule thread post. Moose

Winter survival, I have not tried it because us Thai people are not built for cold weather! Seriously - I HATE being cold, I am fine with hellacious hotness. But something about that constant cold...I will have to conquer it sooner or later. Probably sooner now that I have brought it up.

My question for the next person: So by now you realize that all of this survival talk sounds odd to the sheeple. Do you hide the fact that you practice skills and practice survival from your co-workers? if so why? I know my reasons.

A skill you either consider to be a weakness or strength...
I can fix computers, it is a strength because it is handy, it is a weakness because once people find this out - they ask me to fix their computers!

Not at all. My screensaver at work is a compilation of hunting / outdoors pictures. I'm an Oracle DBA so being a bit weird enhances my career. :D

Here's me posing with my Howard Hill Halfbreed during rabbit season:

My quick wit has done loads of good for me personally, socially and economically.

Next question for next poster:
If you could make a living doing any outdoor related thing, what would that thing be?

A:That's easy, a fishing guide.
Q: Do you sometimes feel like you spend too much time talking about being outdoors and not enough time there?
Skill: I seem to catch fish when others can't.

A: Lately, I have been doing more talking than walking. Now that the temperature is dropping I'll be emerging from the cellar to venture back out into the woods.

Me with a generous gift from my neighbor.

Q: What has been your longest wilderness trip?

Skill: To be confident enough in a skill to NOT feel the need to use it at every opportunity.

Longest trip was 14 days canoeing in Canada on Reindeer Lake, Saskatchewan

A weakness, plant id. I know some but need to know a lot more

Question: If you could take a trip/outing anywhere hunting or camping where would it be?

I wanna say this, I am a camera shy person. I don't like having my pic taken, much less put out on the internet. To Zeke for starting this, thanks, for those that post, thank you very much. Its nice to put a face with the post. I posted a pic of me, and that took alot, if you're like me, it takes alot to put it out there. Kudos to all. Moose

Me too Moose, no worries. I hate pics but if there is a tractor tire somewhere, sitting and minding it's own business, I have to flip it...this time the wife happened to catch me...:D

A hunt for Stone sheep in N BC would be styling and likely in the future

Question What is your main user knife for bushcrafting
Dan'l

Dan'l

I switch it up often, but my current favorite is my BHK Boat Tail Scandi. It is tough, super-sharp, and easy to maintain. I look for reasons to use it. (seen here)

And here I am with an atlatl and the BHK knife on my belt:

A skill I would like to improve: Shelter building. I simply haven't built a shelter from natural materials in years. I need to get out and do it.

Question for the next poster: What primitive culture do you admire most, and why?
