Figured it was about time to take a "family photo" of these guys. A lot of bang for the buck in one picture, and not a one of them made in China. Countries represented include (from top to bottom, left to right) Brazil, Sweden, America, South Africa, France (twice), Germany, Portugal, Japan, and New Zealand. These are but a few of the most famous "penny knives" (and machete) out there, but many of the icons are shown here.

I have five of the knives pictured. I don't carry them often, but at their price points, I usually carry one of them if I'm going somewhere where there might be a security checkpoint that I'd need to ditch the knife before going through, such as a concert or somesuch.

I have at least one of each, save the Okapi and the Mam. Of all them, the machete gets used most, usually on the yearly Xmas tree, and the occasional dead bush in the backyard. Opinel is probably number two. More often then not, I go smaller, but the penny knives ate definitely fun to play with.

Great family picture ! The cheapies but goodies deserve a hearty cheer from time to time. I own five of those and I want an Okapi with this nice wooden handle (not the CS...).

I've got opinels, svörds, and a Mora. They're great value. I'll also be picking up a tram (or maybe an imcasa) later this summer, and I've nearly purchased a higo a few times now.

Maybe I'll have to give a few more of these a try :).

I have six of those and they are indeed a value. Nice family shot.

What would you call the Okapi blade shape? Some awkward clip that is almost wharncliffe? It reminds me of some saex I have seen

I like what you did with the Svord. The wooden handles aren't much at first but a bit of attention goes a long way. I did something similar with one I have since given away.

Actually, that's completely unmodified. I didn't do anything besides take it out of the box. :)

Well, at least I have one...the Mora.

The only other knife that would appeal to me is the Tramontina machete. I just have never needed a machete.

The other knives just aren't my style.

I've got a sod buster and as of yesterday my first opinel, a 8 carbon. I need to add some more. Douk Douk is already on the list, I like that svord and will grab one of those too. Nice pic

What is that south African knife called?

The South African knife is an Okapi, their Sable model in specific.

Cool post just wish the brands models and country of origins would have been listed for those of us who can't tell that info at a glance
