Howdy! I am the one in question that returned the Randall Fighting knife the Army aviator. Our aviator was hard pressed and so I procured the knife from him. I actually didn't feel worthy to own this storied blade, but had resolved to see to it that his son/grandson would have the blade if his demise should preclude my own. I am happy to report that the blade is back where it belongs in the hands of this storied fighter.
Our owner saved the bacon of recon group that was under heavy fire. Upon returning to base the leader gave our flier the Randall. He had taken it off of one of our communist adversaries. One can only imagine where the NVA soldier got it....
A good Memorial Day to you all! I AM Tugcapt1

What? I feel like I walked into the middle of a conversation. In Greece.

unwisefool. This is a response to an earlier conversation about an old friend (Randall fighting knife ) returning to it's owner....

Might be helpful to link to that thread or post in it so everyone has some context

I saw the original thread. This was a pleasing conclusion and very nice of you to return it to the earlier owner...

Quite a story! So you bought the knife off the aviator, and then returned it to him. Neat.

So how did you find that he had shared the story with us? What inspired you to join and tell your part of the story?

Fascinating story. I take it you were part of the recon group whose bacon was saved. Did the team leader acquire the knife on this mission?

A good Memorial Day to you, too.

I have an interest in knives which was heightened after doing research on the Randall after I acquired it. I look at forums here and there to see what people are talking about and happened upon the previous thread from my friend about his "old friend".

Cool. So you returned the knife that you bought and then, a couple days later happened upon that other thread in the General Forum! Nice!

Were you researching Randalls when you came upon it? Do you collect or own any other Randalls? Always love to see pics!
